Working on a game, my fans said they wanted something cel-shaded, I'll get to that part when she makes it into Unity. But Based on the way I studied textures from some cel-shaded models I studied from The Spriters Resource, this way of texturing should look very nice if I can get a good outline and single cel shade.

cool! looks like someone out of a Terry Pratchett book.
-
Beatifull!! :v

Looks good, follows your style. Cel-shading shaders would only really be more effective if you had more geometric and/or normal mapped detail and resolution. The outline effect will definitely help during animations--having a dominant hue without any shading on her clothes will cause a bit of visual confusion during animation, making it hard (but not impossible) for the eye to pick out the contours when the clothing happens to overlap itself from the camera's perspective. Would appreciate it if you update us on what it looks like in-game and how your solution.

Yea I can keep you posted.
So far on my dev log, I showcase a cool face rig I made from scratch in Maya. I think that it's pretty flexible and I look forward to using it in the game.

wow, that facial rig looks brilliant - really expressive. blows my paltry attempts at facial work out of the water...

Time ago i post this ideia with "images" to be implemented in Anim8or.. :'(

By the Way here is an alternative model I made for her:
-
re Alternative, aesthetically unappealing, especially her hosiery and belt thing.plus the chest doesn't read right makes her look as if she has a peculiar breast arrangement.
-
What?
-
What?
Quoted for agreement.
What are you smokin', captaindrewi? It's for a game! Since when do games mimic what you might consider reality? If anything, "peculiar" is the expected norm! And as far as I can tell, despite your negative comments (unless you're truly being facetious), all of fromsoysauce's creations fit their intended use to a tee.
-
I love all of soys creations, but this one is as i have commented in my opinion. my comments are not meant to be negative.I imagined soy wanted feed back or does he post just for ego massage?
soy is a master and his work is exemplory.
Gee Rude take a chill pill!!
Perhaps there is a misunderstanding, as soy said it was an alternative i thought it was one he had rejected in favour of the first one he posted.I believed i was essentially agreeing with his decision.
-
No need to fight over a model.
My "what?" was really just me trying to express that I couldn't really make sense of your post because of the broad comments that I had problems finding specific information with. It sounded like you had something important to say that I was having a hard time making out, that's all.
Though--- let me first do some clearing up on my own as that seems like the right thing to do:
This alt-model is an alt-model that will appear in the game along side the Wizard get-up. The reason why it exists is because I foresaw it'd be hard for me to concentrate on animating her with long robe, hat and shawl getting in the way a lot. So I wanted to make a version of her that would work well without those articles of clothing. But when I removed that stuff, she looked boring, so I put other things on her design to keep things interesting again. I eventually thought taking it a step further and giving her different footwear would be fun too.
----
I don't consider myself a "master" as I still like to use the self-proclaimed title "The Average Animator" but I'm glad you appreciate my stuff. Recently, more than ever, I've been in this mindset of trying to always do better. Compliments are nice, constructive criticism has more value, and your not the first person to note that a better image could be on her shirt. And I'd be interested in figuring out something that would work better while staying with the theme of the solar system.
It's nice to know when people object to certain things, but what's better is if I can figure out why, and what I can do to do better.
But apart from compliments and C+C, another reason I like to post work is to catch reactions: What does the design/art-style make you feel?
Here's an example. I just recently decided I don't want her to have that paper any more, since it doesn't do anything for her. It leaves her with a free hand. I asked some of my friends what might be nice to have her do with that instead of hold a paper. And one of them thought of this idea that jells nice with both the wizard and astronomy themes. I made a mock-up image to show how this might reflect what her idle-stance in-game would look like (in game it'd be seen from left and right sides, since this is a smash bros game):

This pose, and the details that it entails, what do you think it says about Meryl?
-
...and your not the first person to note that a better image could be on her shirt. And I'd be interested in figuring out something that would work better while staying with the theme of the solar system.
solar eclipse, perhaps? just thinking out loud... :)
-
My aesthetic sensibilities are just my aesthetic sensibilities, just because i don't like mid calf socks on the female form doesn't mean they should be banned and the ban become law. The moon shape on her chest as it bulged i felt confused her anatomy. I have now realised that if she were animated it would be more easily read and understood.
Sorry Soy i'm just an average joe offering my daft opinion.
-
It actually is an image of a solar eclipse...
-
my mistake; i'd assumed it was a crescent moon :P i was thinking of the little ring of light left around the edges when you get a full eclipse, like this one - https://c.tadst.com/gfx/750w/solar-eclipse.jpg?1
-
Ooh, fss, this is a slightly different texturing style than I've seen of you before! Looks really cool, and great modelling as always
-
So does this mean you are still progressing with the game?
(I really want to play it!!!).
-
Yes I'm still making this game, and now it's going to be made better than ever.
Though atm I'm only just starting to program for this project.
But this time I'm doing it in a way to make it super easy to add characters. Should be pretty ergonomic.
-
fss, I gotta say, you (or you guys, if that's cool) are TALENTED. Is your art style at all inspired by RWBY?
-
Thanks, though personally I like to attribute my results up to hard-work rather than talent.
Yes in fact I was going into a pretty detailed study of the RWBY models and shading techniques.
-
Since many people pointed it out, I changed the depictions of the sun and moon on her shirt to a more minimalistic look:
-
I made some little tweaks But I think they made a huge difference. There is now depth to her hat, and her sleeves are more rounded out:
-
The sleeves look nicer but I think the rim on the hat should stay thin just because that's how ringed planets appear from far away (eg Saturn). Other than that it looks great.
-
Think the thickened rings could be a little thinner perhaps now that cooldude mentions it. Somewhere in between the two examples...and maybe pull her socks up to her knees.....laughs.
