Hi ya's
I am working on a model. I have some faces selected. I tried to merge them and Anim8or complained: Can't fill holes. So I left the faces selected and chose "Fill holes". Still can't merge :/

you should be selecting the lines, not the faces.

Hi Blick,
Hav you got this sorted. I'm having trouble understanding. Thought maybe you had a small hole inbetween the 2 faces you are trying to merge, so did a quick test, wondering if Anim8or actually said ''Çant fill holes'' after trying to 'merge faces'.
Nope. Didn't think i'd ever come across that 1 before. :)
Anyway, as cooldude said, basically, Select faces to merge faces, select edges to fill holes.
But you knew that!?
now I'm so confused :)

Hi johnar
thanks for chiming in. Let's revisit this another day. Thanks for offering to help

I have found that often what hapenes is that multiple points get "stacked" on each other, so when you highlight what seems to be a closed shape, it doesn't fill. To remedy this go through the points and start deleting, you will most likely find that somewhere on the polys that are giving you an issue, you probably have multiple points..... To prevent this, I try to pull from what would be a "common" point to creat multiple edges instead of "stacking" a bunch of edges on the same point..... Hope that helps.

One thing to take Hypure's advice a bit further... if you have a hole you can't fill, and suspect you have multiple points and vertices right on top of each other and simply can't tell by seeing, BUT you are really uncomfortable with deleting anything there... select the points in that area, and Edit - Merge Points - 0.001 for the Maximum Merge Distance... that would bring the duplicate/overlapping points and vertices together, and should allow you to fill your gap. If it doesn't work, there's always "undo," unless that was disabled.
