Hey gang
I am trying to wrap my brain around the cut tool and I think I may have learned how to use it correctly, but want to confirm. If I cut some faces, say for instance through a sphere. It will make a new set of points and edges. I simply "select all" the new points and edges and hit delete and there is my cut effect. No matter where I put the cut line; through the middle of the face, a 1/3 down, 2/3 down, that will be the face(s) selected to be cut. In other words I can't cut the faces in half or any other increment
Hope this makes sense. :-)

Hey Blick, the cut tool is used to arbitrarily cut through a face, adding a new edge and vertices.
You can then select any unwanted edges or faces and delete those as you normally would.
It's not meant to actually remove anything as a tool.

Hi Crashdrive
I found a better way to explain what I want to accomplish. I want to create a low poly person for rigged animation. I haven't master that yet but found a model I'd like to rig with bones. It was suggested that each part of the person should be seaprate; as oppsed to trying to rig a full model.
So I was going to use the cut tool to cut the arms the legs and the head accordingly. I can't figure out how to do that. :)

Oh, Okay. Just select all the 'faces' of the part you want to separate and press Edit>Detach faces.
I hope this what you mean. :)

Hi Crashdrive
Thats not it. :-)
Say you have a sphere and you want to cut it in half and save each half as an object?

Hmmm. Maybe there is a script or different method but, I would do it as I explained.
You have to fill in the open ends after detaching.

Ahhhhhh this helps a lot. Thanks!! :-)

Glad it helped. I forgot that you can also select the edges you want to cut and use the Edit > Loop Cut.
I almost always use the faces method because it's more visual and forget about that one.
Either way the results are the same. :)
