Title: Can't merge points 2

I googled this, and it seems there was another topic like this, but that person was trying to merge points of 2 meshes so that's why it didn't work. I'm trying to merge 2 points of the same mesh. I extruded a point by click-dragging the line tool a few times. Then selected the 2 points and chose "merge points". It says no points are selected. As you can see in the screenshot they are and are close together. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Merge Points works on Meshes (and Subdivision meshes).  It looks like you are trying to merge the ends of a Spline (also called a Path).
