Strange, this version completely lost track of my textures. Ok, not a huge deal, but then I go and relocate each one (mostly) then save it and when I tried to open it back up it was corrupt. It seems to load just fine all the way until the end when it tells me it couldn't open the file. I'll try again with a previous save of this project and see if it happens again. I have a lot of textures in this particular project though so it's a bit of a chore.

How would you feel about making Shift temporarily turn on selection mode while you hold it down during transform operations? You've already implemented similar behaviour for Ctrl (the paint-selection mode in 0.98), and the other modifier keys are still free.
Likewise, holding down Alt could work well for arc rotate.
-
memyax, you can use the control+shift keys to do this now. I know that's a little awkward and I've been considering using just the shift key to do that (but it would have to be disabled in certain modes like Text because otherwise you couldn't enter upper case letters). Alt could be used for arc-rotate, too, as you suggest.

Come on guys! It's like in the anekdot: 3 lazzy guys were thinking "how freekin amazing would it be, if there were buttons for all their wishes, so there won't be needed to do anything. Just push a button! And then one of them said : " Yeah !!! But who gonna push those buttons !!! " There's already the ctrl+R shortcut. Why inventing something new, since there can appear a problem ( what about standart windows alt for menu use)? And this ctrl+shift usage : I find it very easy, I use it all the time. 2 keys is not that big problem . The same about holding the ctrl while selecting: very practical and easy, don't think there's a need to make it standard way of selection ( ala wing3d , without holding ctrl ). Anim8or need tools. A lot of what has been done doesn't need to be fixed, I think it is in it's final, best form.

no PNG textures yet?

Deepthought, the v0.96 and v0.97 Previews were the development releases leading up to the v0.98 official release. As such there are no more features than what you've already seen up to this point, except for some tweaks.
As a reminder to everyone, there is already a Feature Request Thread (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php/topic,4647.0.html) where you can place your suggestions.

sometimes when i select multiple faces or points by right-clicking, it brings up the point editor or face info dialog for every face i select even though i only single clicked.
-
Thanks for the version! :)
Unfortunately, it crashes for me on Windows 7 (64 bit). Here's the output of dxdiag. (http://pastebin.com/gMGRbQJc)

There's already the ctrl+R shortcut. Why inventing something new
Because Ctrl+R is a toggle. A toggle is not the best choice for a navigation tool.
-
And let me know what you thing about the new look of the website.
i like it - looks cleaner and more structured than before.
have to admit i'd kinda given up hope of seeing any more releases, so it was a really nice surprise to click through here and find the updates just now! and nice that my forum account still works despite me having not posted here in ages.

thecolclough dito that.

Hey, sorry to bring this topic up, but I just wanted to thank Steve for the new version.
Been a user for almost 12 years now, not even expecting or paying attention on new releases, and Steve blesses us with these new features. The mirror function is just plain awesome. To do stuff like these automotive designs it will be great:

Did this a couple years back. Everything in Anim8or, was awarded a by a design contest by Fiat in Brasil.
Thanks for all Steve!

Great work, lucasresende. You're the talented one :)

Hi steve ,
I wanted to know if your still alive and not dead. If your still alive can you please give us an update on you actually look like now on your website so i tell my teachers who i can give credit for this amazing piece of software!
-
I'm still alive :-) I'm currently in Italy until August 1st for an extended vacation. But I recently retired and have been working on Anim8or anew. See the forum on the development releases for more information on this. I'll post an updated picture when I get back.
Ciao!

Ah so I see why you have free time now ;D
I'm sure Nvidia will miss you ;)

Hi Steve,
I just wanted to say a very big thank you for such wonderful software...I've been waiting for the update...my computer has not been playing nicely but it likes this anim8or version. I had surgery on part of my head 3 years ago and had been working on an abstract animation as a therapy from the event and then my computer said "no" ...but now says "yay" so now I can put my ideas together...thankyou again.

Quite a while back, I purchased Hexagon 2.5 from DAZ. I have worked with it, but like Blender, it seems to be hard to pick up. I'd made a couple of attempts, recently, to make a couple of different car models in Anim8or. They are, generally, failures, although two are "usable." I poked around the DAZ site this AM and found and purchased a tutorial for Hexagon about making cars. In the course of the four videos making up the tutorial, Hexagon must have crashed around ten times on the guy. Anim8or does crash on me on occasion, but not nearly that often. In fact, the more I work with Anim8or, the less it seems to misbehave. Also like to point out the guy had to use a "work around" to get his back ground drawings into Hexagon for his model, something that seems overly complicated in Blender, as well. Other words, Steve, you're doing good!

I got hexagon for free when DAZ had a promotion and it was just too unstable. Every time I used it, it had crashed on me :S
But as modelers go I think anim8or is one of the most intuitive. The only other modelers are as intuitive are 3D cad software and things like zbrush/sculptris but those are used in for specific circumstances (like prototypes and organic modeling).
Hexagon is still pretty good but it definitely isn't without it's drawbacks which unfortunately are the first things you see about it.
-
I have version 2.5 but it lacks animation support. Nice modeler though. Leroy.

THANKS STEVE!

OOOOOOOO! Crawling out from under my rock! I had just referred someone to trying "that old anim8or program" yesterday, completely clueless to the fact that there's something beyond 97d! I came to the website after not being here for... well, looking around it may have been 2 years now! Just to make sure things were still all available as I remember, and...
I've been out of touch with anim8or sooo long! I had no idea Steve came out of hiding!!!
The last semi-serious endeavor I worked on was November, 2012, when I was goofing with the Doof (enschmirtz)...
Cracking into the new version now! It has been far too long...

Anim8or was the most usable out of everything I could find when I started 3d modeling 2 years ago. It is very user friendly and the way the manual is written and worded is VERY intuitive. Thank you STEVE your work is very appreciated, one of my favorite things.

Another good one I use is Caligari's old Truespace 7.61 beta 8 if you want to export animated models. I use old model side 6.6 version included with 7.61. It's pretty simple to use and is icon based in terms of it's modeling tools. It's no longer supported but is still downloadable via the web and free as well.
Anim8or is cool but I'm still waiting for animation support which makes it not as useful as Truespace in terms of exporting animation. Truespace, can export in X, 3ds, and it's own native COB and SCN format. Hopefully, Steve will eventually add animation support for something like 3ds or one of the other model formats that it currently uses. Leroy.
-
Not sure what you mean by not having animation support?
-
in terms of exporting animations
