When I select two adjacent points in an object, and click "merge points", one point moves over to the other, and they merge. Is there a way to affect which point moves and which stays put?
-
Hey tomasball,
unfortunately, no. As far as I know, it merges towards the latest created point.
A way to go around it would be to use the knife tool to cut over the point you want to merge to, this will add (a) point(s) in the vicinity of that point, then select the whole bunch and merge, it should merge to the latest created point (the one you just cut).
If there is an easier way I would love to hear it, this is always a difficult point. (no pun intended)

In the script database, you will find a script named
snap to point.Use it to move 1 point where the other is ,
then select both and merge.
Maybe they remain selected after snap.I'm not sure.

you may use 'SnapAvg', it Snap all selected point at the Center of them (average).
if you need them that way, can be found here:
Advanced Modeling Tool-Set: http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php/topic,4616.0.html
*if your need is to snap to a definite point ask, then i will post a interactive tool with that function.
Claude: do you made any update to 'Snap2Point'? if, please post it then. i will not post if you have done it.

Just realized,I wrote this more then 5 years ago.
As far as I remember, you select a pnt ,store it,select others
and snap them to the location of the stored one,but only
for the axis selected.I don't think I ever added anything
to this.
Bye

OK, i updated my Tool Pack then.
tomasball and other: i added an inter-active tool 'MergeFix', to use it ...
* disable 'Back' Button
* select a Point (press a) you wish to snap with, now run it.
* now select any other, they will be Snapping with First one.
* to stop use Group select (press d) to select Snapped.
* apply Merge Point (press L), no setting change will be needed just press 'Enter'.
* if you don't used any other Script recently, press 'alt+c+1' to run it again.
now 'SnapAvg' will keep selection when finished. to get it use above link, thanks.
