Hi everyone,
I'm new on this forum, and this make long time that I try to put a texture to my model. I can put materials but, how can I put textures? And my biggest Anim8or problem, (i'm begginer) I use too much the Subdivision when I want to put more things to my models (like a mouth). My model can be a 16MBs! ;D So, how can I stop this problem, using too much subdivision?
P.S: Sorry if I don't speak english verry well! ;D I'm french.
Thanks a lot,

I'm not that good at texturing, but if you just want to basically texture something make a material. then in the ambient, diffuse, specular, and emissive sections is a square with a dash (-) in it. click on the one next to diffuse. click load texture. Go to My Pictures or wherever you keep your textures and click one. then hit open. there will be a box that has three textures in it: none, CHECKS, and whatever one you are using. click on the one your using. then hit ok. then hit ok again. then apply the material to your object. It will now be textured. yay! :)

:)
I will try this.
Thanks a lot for this verry fast answer!
EDIT: It doen't work?.....

if you need it more precise, like you want to put a dvd cover so that it covers the front, use the uv tool, there are quite a few tutorials for this, and generally, if you have a box that needs to be textured, it's better to texture every face seperately
-
UV Tool? What's UV Tool? I try to texture it, but it give nothing. And, how can we texture only one face of a cube like you said?
Thanks

I have just made a tutorial for beginners an how to apply a texture. It is all explained in images.
Have a look : http://www.3d-anim8.com/tutorials/ (http://www.3d-anim8.com/tutorials/)
Hope it helps :)

Thats pretty much what i said. do you need to UV it though? can't you just rotate it so that the face that the texture shows up on is facing the front view?
-
i think that with some types you might have to uv it, mabye it depends on the image size
-
I did the same thing than the video but, my material picture and my cube are still greay! ???
-
what stat are you putting the texture in? Ambient, bumpmap, diffuse, etc.? You need to use diffuse.
-
try pressing the button which says "UV"
-
I used UV, this not change... And I put the texture in diffuse...
Is there a link with the texture and my cube?
This is the texture that I'm trying to use:

Is it possible to post me the AN8 file how you will do it?
Thanks
-
you attach the anim8or file, by going to additional options, and choosing to attach the file, now just find the file and attach it
-
Ok. Here's the An8 file:

are you using the newest preview version? i think i've discovered a new problem with it, i'm tryong to texture all faces one by one, but for some reason i can only texture 4 sides, but 2 of them can't be textured without stretched lines, is it just me that's encountering this?
for your problem, i think you'll find that if you press the "UV" button, it should texture your cube
-
Try going "View>Preferences..." then check the 'textures' box and any other boxes you wish to view in the file output and viewport.
-
:) It's working! :D
Thanks a lot,

It says it's a PNG image, and last time I checked anim8or couldn't use .png's.
Though I'm not sure about any of the preview anim8ors such as .97
