Is it me, or V0.96 died before being launched? Where is it? And why this version 0.97?
Please, don't get me wrong, but this issue is confusing me.

Version 0.96 is still here, click on "v0.97 Preview" (on your left) and go down to "New Features in v0.96a Preview"
But I guess that it has 'died' before a stable version got released, Steve probably got excited about implementing a raytracer and and forgot to make the stable version of 0.96 (this is just an idea, I'm not trying to spread a rumor)

In my opinion 0.96 was pretty stable. There were a few issues with the cut tool, but those were fixed in 0.97. 0.96 never died before it launched, in fact, it launched a while ago. It's the beta version that's been using scripts and asl.

Indeed, v0.96 is stable enough. But I can only find the beta version.
Where is the final version? Will it be launched?

The beta version is all that was launched. My guess is that Steve moved straight from 0.96 to 0.97 because the ART raytracer was such a big advancement. So, there never was a "stable" version of 0.96, though I'd consider 0.97 a stable version for modeling. The ART raytracer isn't completely stable at the moment as there are some render bugs, but it's getting there I'm sure. So to answer your question, there was no "stable" version of 0.96.

all these versions are in fact betas! (0.96 & 0.97) it even says in the splash screen that they are previews.
the only stable version is in fact, as far as I am aware V0.95 perhaps steve will confirm that?

0.96 and 0.97 are indeed both beta. the next stable version will probably be 0.98 or 0.99 or something.
