Try using the subdivision tool to sculpt the basic model. You'd be amazed at what a single application will do for your base models appearance

Ah, this reminds me of my early modeling days.

For real. Originally, I never thought I'd get my first model made, but over the years I've really come to appreciate cool modeling software like Anim8or and Caligari Truespace. I love using them both immensely. Kudos to Steve for creating such a cool program.  ;D

especially if you apply it to an extruded spline.
