Title: Feature request for ASL based import support.
Post by: lppena on March 19, 2012, 04:20:26 am
If export scripts are doable why wouldn't the ability to create import scripts be undoable in a future release?

No one said it wasn't doable. It just hasn't been implemented yet.

Maybe you should write a script for it.
SCRIPT-CEPTION!!
(lol, jk. I have no idea what either of you are talking about.)

I was referring to adding the ability to create ASL based import scripts for Anim8or. As far as I know A8 does not currently support ASL import scripts. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but it would be nice to be able to import other popular 3D modeling formats. Leroy.

Seems like it'd be possible, with the plethora of other types of scripts out there, but I'm no ASL genius. Matter of fact, I've never tried to write in ASL one time in my life.

Me neither, I keep saying I will but I don't.
Its my lazy bone kicking in.

As I was saying, import-based ASL scripting has not been implemented yet in Anim8or. It's on Steve's to-do list, as is integrating ASL into the rest of the editors in Anim8or.

The closest I've come so far is attempting to modify existing scripts as a learning exercise. I would like to eventually write some simple scripts if I can comprehend how it's all done. As far as I can tell Raxx is quite knowledge in this area and I have my fingers crossed that he will eventually post a few simple how to tutorials to explain some of the entries I see in a typical ASL script. Anim8or, is quite powerful in this area in terms of plugin creation for all kinds of cool addon features. From what I've seen ASL scripts are at least as powerful as Python scripts and easier to implement because it uses a simple text editor verses a application like IDLE to create scripts for Python use. Anim8or, is quite advanced for an older modeling software. I really hope that Steve will eventually tweak Anim8or when he has some free time. Leroy.

Can't wait for scripting in figure mode. I need something better than copy and paste in notepad to duplicate figures. Or maybe a script for making symmetrical skeletons.
