Title: Suggested improvement to Materials editor
Post by: Dosser on March 22, 2008, 01:46:56 am
G'day,

I guess this is a minor one in the scheme of things, but would make things a lot easier. When experimenting with materials (in the dialog), it would be useful to see an example of the 'shiny ball' of this material in realtime. It would make it easier to gain an idea of what the material looks like (rather than guessing, then having to close the box to look at it).

Good idea.  I haven't done that yet because I'd need to do some restructuring of the code to support multi-threaded renderenig.  Otherwise Anim8or would stall while the images were being updated each time you made a minor change.  This is even more true with the ray tracer for especially transparent materals. I thought about adding a "View Material" button you could click to do the render but that seems kind of clunky.

(i didn't want to start my own thread on similar things so i kinda hi-jacked this one)

i believe i read somewhere that you could copy and paste materials, i havn't worked out how to do this, if it is very obvious I'm sorry for posting.

Select a material in the material bar, go "Edit>Copy Material" then "Edit>Paste New Material"
