Title: couchnglasses

ok...ive been away from cg for a long time as i was way too busy (yeah, my exams :( ) so i decided to model something which i hadnt attempted before.and i got to work on it at once.here's what ive produced so far.
modelled in anim8or.
rendered in mental ray.

P.S. it would be great if you could tell me wat can be improved.  :o
P.P.S. i had modelled a whole room but its empty. that  is why i zoomed in on the glasses :P

Nice start. I think the material of the glasses could use some more work. The refraction they have is a bit to strong (normal IOR = 1,33 for glass, sometimes even lower).

thanks..i used IOR=1.53. i totally forgot the refractive index for glass. let me re-render it.

Bottle opener? ashtray? wine bottle lol things like that. really looks nice! Background looks good as well :D

Are you planning on making the rest of the room? looks like the couch came out well

@daniel i thought about that too but am not sure how to make the mini bubbles in alcohol.

The second render looks better imo. The IOR works better now.

Something doesn't look right about the shadow of the glasses... I think the shadow of the inside of the glass should be lighter instead of darker than the outside rim where the actual glass is... if I'm making any sense...

The imagery is great! Except, as Cori points out about the glasses' shadows. But, it's not a designer flaw so much as an anim8or issue...

Actually, what is disturbing is how the sides of the shadow that portay the glass thickness come across... The treat the glass thickness as if it is hollow, when it ought to show as darker and not so well-defined. This is because anim8or sees the surfaces alone, and the glasses are modeled inside and outside, but anim8or does not treat the space between the glass surfaces as solid. I don't know if there's even a way to avoid that glitch about anim8or. I have the same struggle with when I made my Kazoka Kola soda bottle, and when trying to make a soda bottle I am coincidentally working on as I type.

Yes, unfortunately anim8or doesn't support caustics. But mental ray has. It's still difficult to get those shadows right.

I just finished the bottle cap re-creation, and am working on a couple of bottle designs....

Hello. Can I ask? How do you use that information in Anim8or? Can it be used to make realistic materials? How would you do it?

You can use a IOR attribute in combination with a reflection or dielectric attribute to make the refractions more realistic.
