here's my first scene render... its more a study in light and shadow.. i'm a pretty lousy modeler.. but i needed to do SOMETHING with the stairs i wrote a plug-in for... lol
oh, i would really like to have wires for the telephone, but am having no luck myself(lousy modeler)... would appreciate it if someone could show me how to model an electric wire... tnx
aloha...

For a first scene that really isn't bad! Your "bad" modelling does not show that much. The one thing I would say that is distracting is the placement of the light coming from the window(out of view). If it is the moon, it is very low to the ground and the shadow runs right across the pictures and stuff on the wall. It clutters up the wall and is slightly distracting from the rest of the image. Other than that minor issue this is a good first render I think.

thank you for your encouragement, kind sir.... the whole thing started as I followed a lighting tutorial, trying to make shadows... guess I got a little carried away with the thing...lol what I really wanted was shadows of lace curtains against the wall, but I discovered that light doesn't seem to flow thru transparent images, or even glass material, either...grrrrrr...
anyway thanks again for the critique and encouraging words

freesailor, this is a very nice scene.
If you want to finish it with the phone wire then here's a tutorial on how to extrude along spline (http://www.3d-anim8.com/tutorials/wire.asp) to make it :)

Wow!! talk about personalized tutorials!!! Awesome!! Thank you very much lynn, I'm hopping to anim8or right now to add some wires... I'll post the results when I'm done... and thanks also for pointing me to your(?) site, I'm sure I'll find some interesting things there...

You're very welcome freesailor, I'm looking forward to your new render with wired phone ;)
It is indeed my site, so please feel free to visit often.

boy, it looks so easy on paper...lol had some kind of problem with the phone, so I had to re-do it... then the wires weren't as simple as it looked... anyway, here's the new render with wires... YAY!!! ;D
-
Congrats ! The wires look perfect and next time it will be easier ;)
I love the bannister of your staircase.
-
thank you!! if you check out the ASL scripts database, on page four you'll find some plug-ins for the stairs, landing, and banister... try them out if you like...
so, remembering my mom always yelling at me to "get yer toys out of the front hall", I added the last element to my scene... he he he.. Bob Ross always said you should sign your art work, sooooooooooo... the final touch :)
