Title: Melting Candle
Post by: davdud101 on October 14, 2010, 03:30:15 pm
Hey, guys... so I made this candle and plate by lathing.... I used a little of neodelito's glowing surface tutorial for the flame. Tell me how it is.

Nice!

An Idea to make it a bit more realistic looking (the candle wax looks like plastic a bit now) is adding translucency. Anim8or of course does not have this, but if you look at pictures from lit candles ( http://www.freefoto.com/images/90/18/90_18_85---Christmas-Candle_web.jpg?&k=Christmas+Candle ) it is pretty straight-forward; at the top there is more light shining through the wax, as you go down less light comes through.

Now a way to achieve this in Anim8or I think would be to add an Emissive texture to your candle material : a pretty normal gradient with at the top yellow-ish light shining through, fading to black for the bottom (black = no light emitted)

Not sure if it would work but you can give it a try for extra realism :)

Also, but you know this already, some lighting/shadows would add to the candle-effect ;)

Gd luck & nice going!

good job..my only criticism is that the plate is turned a little more towards the camera than it should.if u look at d top of d candle and the plate,u'll see that they are at different angles.so just rotate the plate a little towards the front. :)

Maybe the candle stands not straightly on the plate  :D Nice model. And the tutor you were talking about? :)
