Vertigo

Quote from: Wikipedia
Vertigo (from the Latin vertō "a whirling or spinning movement"[1]) is a type of dizziness, where there is a feeling of motion when one is stationary.

Since this is a sensation that occurs when you're stationary, all that's required is a still render. While vertigo is often associated with heights, it can be taken literally to describe optical illusions that make still images seem like they are moving. Google's your friend!

Sticking to the core of what these Anim8or challenges are about, your work must be modeled and rendered using Anim8or. Post effects, uvmapping, and texturing is naturally allowed in any third party application.

Deadline: Completed

What will be judged: The best still render gets blue ribbon!

Winner: Janro

I already have an idea for this... gonna start sketching it out and modelling. Hopefully i'll actually finish one for once!

wow... I have no idea how to do this, it sounds really complicated.

Not difficult at all. When I created the challenge, I was mostly thinking of a heights-oriented theme. If you can make an optical illusion of vertigo then go for it, if not then think of something high up that could make you dizzy looking down. An example of a first-person perspective shot is this: http://forgetmenot2010.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Lot07-Andre-Lichtenberg.jpg

Here's an example I made in about 10 minutes in Anim8or. You can mess with the perspective of the camera to exaggerate it even more, also.

@cooldude: WHAT THE HELL IS SO GOOD ON FIREWORKS? A GOOD PROGRAM DOESNT MEAN GOOD PICTURES! AND GIMP IS FINE, TOO!AND ITS FREE! sorry for that, i was... angry on an idiot(not you)

Post by: 3Dgeek11 on September 28, 2010, 05:54:41 pm
@Cooldude: (As well) I have never used Fireworks, but PhotoShop gets the job done nicely. Along with PhotoFiltre, a free program. I use them both for texturing and any pictures I edit.

Don't quite have an idea for this one yet, but as I said, I will enter this time.

;D Ha, ha, I think everybody are mistaken. I think, as Raxx said, the image he uploaded is just an example and not his entry :D. But maybe I'm wrong :P

I know its an example but it still conveys the feeling.

I have a few concepts for this one but I need to ask. Is it frowned upon to reuse models? The best concept I thought of so far for this challenge involves using the same model that I used in my previous entry.
Title: Re: Challenge #22: Vertigo
Post by: Raxx on October 02, 2010, 03:24:58 pm
Yeah my image was just an example, I won't be using that shot for my final work.

As for reusing models, the Anim8or challenges have always been where you make it all from scratch unless it's actually specified in the challenge topic. So in this case I'd say it'd be frowned upon ;) You can make a similar or alternate model, however.

:P Still nothing ( me too )? Nobody will enter this one  ???

Hmm... I'm working on something, but I don't know if I can finish it ( started something which I can't handle :P yet)

I'm gonna enter, just haven't done much yet. ;)

I'm working on something but due to class(how annoying it pops up when I'm getting productive) all I've got is the concept plus this screen of the model.

I'm not at home right now so I can't share the concept sketch. But the basic idea is that this guy will be looking through a glass window/cockpit glass looking down at the ground. I'm just finishing this head up and then I'll borrow and tweak the body from an old model to speed up the process. Hopefully I'll have setup the scene by tomorrow.

Meh, as with every other time I attempt to use splines, my project ended up inside out

Getting some progress along, just don't feel like postin pics at the moment...

What do you mean by 'inside out'?  Splines can be used to create relatively complex solids far quicker than box modelling.  Occasionally the faces will be reversed after creation but this is a simple thing to fix.  Can you provide more information?

Post by: MeepII on October 12, 2010, 11:17:06 am
Because the faces were inverted, my use of the non uniform scaling tool made it sort of... err...

Well, it was a tower, but because there only needed to be one side I didn't notice that it went in instead of out at the bottom.

Is the deadline pushing through today? I won't be able to finish this thing within today. Most likely I'll be done by tomorrow.

I'm curious since no one has submitted yet, cant here be an extension? If not that is fine.

EDIT: Here's a test render of what I have so far. I need to adjust lighting, texture and get a better background.

Nice scene Janro. Emm, the deadline is the 16-th I think. Yes one extension would be helpfull  ;D

Uh...I might be able to get something finished before the 16th, but an extension would be nice.

Nice test render, Janro. :)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa  ;D ;D thank you  :D I just had have not Internet these days and had some other problems. It seems that the challenge's subject turned more into "heights" than "vertigo", so I'll follow the same way :)

Can be the deadline extended to the 25-th? I just want to finish it
Title: Re: Challenge #22: Vertigo
Post by: Janro on October 24, 2010, 12:57:09 am
Lol bad time for me to change my composition altogether XD

The other day I was sick and was thinking of the various ailments that was assaulting mybody. Along the way I thought of dizziness then the idea struck, why the heck am I doing a shot about heights? I could do something about being dizzy(then i proceeded to be nauseous and nearly lost my breakfast.) This is also the reason why I couldnt work on this project despite the extension. ><

So when i actually felt well enough to get up and work on stuff I mad a new pose entirely. I'm going to try and finish a new background set and then finish up the effects (most probably in anim8or) within the day.

Post by: Raxx on October 24, 2010, 03:20:03 am
Gee, you guys need another extension? Fine, I'm adding one more week and that's it! We move on to the next one.

So the final deadline is: October 31st

Good work so far Janro, maybe you could warp the background to help aid the dizziness effect
Title: Re: Challenge #22: Vertigo
Post by: Janro on October 24, 2010, 04:31:16 am
My plan, exactly Raxx.  :D Here's a screen as it is now. Warp effect already made just need to position it and render. (It's hidden in the screenshot) As of now it's currently in front of both the character and foreground.

However I will finish this by today. I told myself earlier that I should and it's what I hope to do.

P.S. Don't mind the two pixelated kitties in the screenshot. I forgot to turn them off.

Pardon the double post. I wanted to seperate the uploads between my previous and this one.

The (first)attached render is the final one, assuming that the deadline's today. I'm going to tweak this if anyone's got any tips or if I think of any til the deadline.

The second is the scene without the effect and the last is a screenshot of the setup.

I quit  :'( :'( I have some problems and just had no time to work on it. And I am sorry again because I think I was the only one who asked for additional time :-[.

I just realized I didn't upload the higher res version. While I have the chance here it is. Attached is my final entry.

Also I decided to do away with the in-anim8or deformation since I find the distorting a bit too much. So I tried to do the distorting in photoshop elements. (Although I wish it had the deform tool that works like cs3. I had to do a bunch of other stuff to get the same look.)

Nice work Janro! What a shame tere is only one project here... This challenge idea give me inspiration (in te way of the Raxx's suggestion, "optical illusion, image that seems to move"), I'll probably try something in this way later (probably end december).

Janro, this was really well done! Thanks for showing the whole way of bringing it together. The altered-vision effect is great!

I haven't ventured about the forum much in awhile... busy with other things and the Steampunk stuff... but, sad to see only one that finished!
