Title: "The magic that is 1.0"
Post by: Veggiet on August 15, 2010, 01:05:04 am
Hello Everyone,

It's been a long time since I've been around, I just pop in occasionally to see what's going on. First I'd like to say Thanks Steve! Even though I've moved on to other programs, Anim8or was what got me excited and showed me that I could animate in CG! But the second point I'd like to ask is "What happened?" I don't want to complain, just curious if Steve has just stopped work for a while, or has he worked silently on ANIM8OR and is planning on skipping alphas and going straight into 1.0, or has he dropped the project altogether?

I would like to see anim8or continue and flourish. I use blender now, and even though I've used it for a while I still sometimes forget some of the interface quirks, or what hotkeys to hit. So I think with blender's focus on trying to be an all-in-one movie maker, modeler, game maker. I think that Anim8or could easily focus on being the best user friendly CG modeling and animation tool out there!

Sam

Steve is a busy man, though if he dropped Anim8or all together he would announce it.  Being the only person working on it progress is slow (plus he has an actual job on the side.)  So I would say yes, he's working on it, but progress is and will most likely always be slow.

An8 is open-source correct?
Just no one working on it...?

If not, it would progress faster if it were I think.

(not to say it hasn't) And its still free...
I import 3ds to Blender if I want to do something specific, but if I'm just modeling I like Anim8or.

Open source?  No.  It's all by Steven Glanville, as he says here: http://www.anim8or.com/main/index.html

well i think to be fair to all of us anim8or fans out there he should at least make an announcement. i know it sounds greedy but every1 here is looking forward some new stuff. but even if there is no more new stuff we should at least be acknowledged.

ive been waitin and waitin for awhile now. it would just be nice to hear for "god" himself

Whether or not Steve is working on Anim8or anymore (and I bet he is) he has made great program. It is fairly powerful, intuitive, and simple. I don't have have to ask Steve to K.I.S.S... he already has (and of course he isn't stupid at all, not trying to be insulting or anything ;))and I think that, in itself, is a great accomplishment. Announcement or no, I am happy with Anim8or as it is, yet I wait with baited breath for the next update, like everyone else here. So I guess what I'm saying is, "Take your time Steve, I like the suspence!".

Even 'as is', anim8or has enough to keep me busy, and happy, for a long, long time.
Updates are always a welcome bonus, but don't let the 'apprehension of their arrival' cloud the fact that theres plenty to 'learn and do' with what we already have. ;)
