Ok, first thing i've spent some time on in a while, about 2 hours have gone into building the basic shape (in a not very efficient way lol), 5 minutes setting up basic lights and 10 minutes setting up an animation flythrough.
It's an apartment built on a whim, unfurnished, undetailed and just basically laid out at the moment, hoping to keep working on this unlike many other projects so i'm posting the file.
This is an art render of the last frame (I only have one material applied to everything atm and lights are darkish yellow) :)
If anyone wants other views (there are 4 rooms including main and a section of stairs) just comment and i'll be happy to provide :D
Anyway, enough text, here's a render.

Ok i'm stuck, For the moment I can't face detailing the walls and stuff so I'm going to move onto furniture for the moment, problem is my interior arrangement ideas (proven by sims 3) are very cluttered and unappealing.
If anyone can give me some ideas of how I can furnish my apartment I would be very happy :)
Cheers.

My only suggestion is to watch your scale. The stairs seem absolutely massive relative to the rest of the apartment, in fact the stairwell is the largest room in the house. Not sure if this is what you are after but it seems incorrect.

You will need to make each piece of furnture separately (but you know that already) and then place it wherever you want in your scene making sure it stands on the ground and as ENSONIQ5 says watch your scale.
Here's an example

Think about what normal apartments have. They're set up to fit the basics. So think about what the different rooms are. It appears to be a bigger apartment, I've seen one similar to this. The main room would be a living room, though in apartments they tend to combine to be a kitchen as well, so one side would have cupboards and counters as well as a fridge, dishwasher, oven, etc. You'd want a couch and TV in that room. One or two of the rooms would have to be bedrooms as people live there and need a place to sleep. Lastly a bathroom, everyone needs a bathroom.
That's my recommendation!

Woo cheers for the responses everyone, Think i'll start by drawing up a floorplan before I model any furniture and just decide what's going to be in there :)
Next update will probably be a long time in the future as I work slowly and am on holiday on the 15th but I'll be sure to update when I've added to the apartment :)
