I've started working on this USB Drive... I own a real life one and I've tried my best to get the basic shape. The pic and model are attached.
Update 2: Fixed reversed faces on clear part. Added thickness to the metal insert.

Pretty interesting, davdud. :)
Hope it gets finished. ;)

Thanx, 3DG. I'm nearly done, still working on the circuit board between the cap and the inside of the casing.
-
Ah, going to be detailed, eh? :P
I modeled a very detailed YoYo last year. If anyone wants to see it I'll post it..
Keep it up, and show us the final. ;)
EDIT: Just noticed an updated file, looking good. :D

It's getting tough, not real easy to see the board. I'll be done in a bit.
-
Pretty detailed.
-
i hope your going to make an animation with this. otherwise you wont be able to see nearly half the stuff youve done for it. all ull see is the outer casing and thats no fun at all.
-
good idea. but on the model, you can remove the cap and see th inside.
-
Great job so far!
You might want to give the metal part a bit of thickness though. To do this you might want to model it without subdivision; so modeling the rounded edges can be done with beveling/adjusting, then you can thicken the whole metal part with the shell tool. It will render better that way as well & use less polies. (since its a square shape it doesnt have to be subdivided)
Good luck with the circuit board! looks hard :D
edit: just a note, on the see-through plastic part, half the faces are flipped!
-
Thanks, $imon. I think I fixed the flipped faces. I also shelled the metal part, don't know if it would've been better as just a mesh.
-
Looks good. Maybe it will look more realistic if you design your work and show an open USB drive, to show the other parts of the object.
-
I think I'll seperate the cap from the rest of the model and just render it open in scene mode.
-
I own the same USB drive and the cap does not 'come off', it merely extends to expose the usb hub.
EDIT: I see the 1 GB model must be different from the 2GB, nevermind.
-
Must be. Or maybe they've started a new model or style, because now I see the telescoping ones all the time and rarley ever see the capped on.
