I need to merge the same pieces/parts that use the same material. I have done it this way. Go to point edit. select by material and the detach the faces. But then points are sometimes left.
Is there another way?

There are alot of ways of going about this. can we see a screen shot of what you are trying to do?
-
Thanks. Basically trying to merge all mesh parts using the same material into 1 mesh.
Using the full mesh in Orbiter and need to reduce the groups. So by combining all the groups that use the same material.
I know I can select the mesh groups and join solids. Then they become 1 mesh group.

after you merge all solids you need to go in and connect the edges points between each piece.
-
Thanks. but is there a way to select each piece that uses the same material
-
in edit mode you can go to edit menu and under that go to select. then select by material.

Now how do I merge all of selected faces.

ok when you go into the edit menu and select all by material, did you go back into the edit menu and go down to detach faces to make them all one seperate mesh then with them all selected go to build join solids? Also what are you using this for?
