This problem has been discussed in another topic (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=3405.0)... Nobody came up with a proper solution though :-\

Oh, I got that. It worked when I used the browse button to select a location.

A quick web browse seems to suggest that this error is related to codecs, not Anim8or.  My suggestion would be to render using a different codec, re-download the problem codec, or better yet render without compression and downsample in post production.  It is also a good idea to render to individual JPG's rather than direct to AVI, assuming you have software capable of knitting the images together later, to reduce the likelihood of data loss should your system crash.

even i got that many a times. when i finish my scene, i render it. I open the avi. I want to edit something else. But sometimed i forget to close the avi. after editing the scene, i render it again using the same name. that's when the dialogue box appears. then i close the avi and render with the same name. The dialogue box doesn't appear.
