Title: Trying out the ART Renderer
Post by: davdud101 on June 05, 2010, 11:12:27 am
ok, so I'm working on this little photo type thing, and I'm trying to get these soft shadows, as in where they are dark on the insdie then fade to the plane's color. Any way I can do this without post production? Pic attached.

Check this links about how to use ART attributes:

As ART is only raytracer without photons and other stuff, you may want to fake caustics behind the spheres with 4 point lights placed just behind the spheres near ground or spot lights with narrow cone pointing at the shadows having the same colour as corresponding sphere.
Caustics reference: http://graphics.ucsd.edu/~henrik/images/caustics.html

About soft shadows... I remember that the option was: Light Parameters / Advanced / Cast Shadows / Ray Trace / Soft and set Size to bigger number depending on your scene size. For usual scale 25-100 should give the effect. Antialiasing had to be be turned on.
