Title: Transparency problem.
Post by: Wisptech on May 15, 2010, 08:09:25 pm
I have a sunroom-like room but my problem is that while the material for the glass panes is only 0.2 transparency it COMPLETELY obstructs my outdoor lighting in the scene render. There's got to be a work-around for this, right? It's the only object in my model that I NEED the light to pass through. In the movie sequence that glass pane will darken (hence the light hitting the room interior should change to reflect that).

Unfortunately Anim8or does not (yet) support "light through transparency".  All objects cast shadows in ART renders.  Do you need to have panes in your windows?  Would the animation work if your windows were holes?  If you need panes in place (for reflections etc) you will probably need to do a couple of separate renders (with and without panes) and merge them in post production.

OK well I almost got the look I was goin for I think. Thanks for the tip on the adding it in post. This is about 5 layers of photoshopping... now if I can just be patient enough to do the rest of what I want. The clock will be animated by Flash, the desktop glass should hinge up and act as a monitor screen.

My old family site's background image was done somewhat this way (www.cainfam.com), but I'm looking to give it a not very far future look, completely retool it. So, how's it looking?
