Is there any free program I can use to make my own desktop background? Like if I make a animation, I can put it in a continuous loop play as a desktop background.
-
I don't believe windows supports moving desktop background, not sure about macs...
-
It does actually.. you can have html pages as a background (at least on xp what I'm running) So you can just make an empty html file with a video that fills the whole screen, and use that as a background.
Here a link:

I haven't tried this in a while but, windows supports gif files when you choose your background. Also try this
http://www.axialis.com/ssp/
this is a free program that you can use to create animated desktop backgrounds and custom screen savers.

I susspect you could do this with GIMP too. Atleast that's what I usually use for a GIF
-
So it is possible? Awesome! :D
-
I did do it once using the gimp to create animated gif's but it took me an hour or two and you have to make sure you get the timing right cause otherwise it might be way to fast or way to slow. I found though that having an animated backround got kinda annoying after one or two days though....
-
Actually Jdez your right, it will be kind of annoying to have somthing moving all the time on your back round. I'll just try to make animated gifs for otherthings. I'll find a tutorial on youtube.

i think anim8ting your own screensaver would be cool

If anyone has flash you could look at SWFlash Screesaver
Not 100% sure of the safety virus wise, but for creating screensavers it's pretty good! (Or was when I used it)
Just import the anim into flash and save.

If you can program, then it's really easy to use csharp to make a screensaver -> http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/scrframework.aspx

If anyone is interested in trying D-Bal (https://www.sfgate.com/market/article/d-bal-review-16426190.php) you could look at SWFlash Screesaver

Hmm, I tried using a GIF as my background but it doesn't work. Also I'm sure it would probably slow the computer down a bit wouldn't it?

just go to http://www.axialis.com/ssp/ and use that program. It may cost money but they do have a trial version that just limits the ue to 15 to 30 days. You can create a series of images just as you would do for a gif image, or if yo have it, you can create a flash swf. The program with convert the file to a windows format screen saver which you can also use as a desktop background. It is preety simple.
