Title: Mocha Girl
Post by: Arik_the_Red on February 22, 2010, 04:12:46 pm
Funny I see someone else showing a model of a girl... and I thought I'd share one I'm working on...

First, the real girl... She serves my daily "double mocha breve"...

Then, the model, work in progress... I am really procrastinating on the hair, as I am not sure what to do that way... but the girl is intended to look cartoon-ish to some degree.

Good start, I wish the girls at Starbucks were dressed like that ;)

Onto the model, I think you're doing a great job.  The body is especially well done.  I think the face could use a bit of work though.  The cheeks are indented a bit too much, which makes her look anorexic almost.  The lips could also be a little more subtle, especially around the corners of the mouth (the center is fine.)  The brows also make her look a bit evil/devilish.  they could use a lift to make her seem happier.

As I said though, great start on the body, it looks like some solid modeling!
Keep it up!

yea i agree. the body is lookin great. the head doesnt look so great. ive tried 2 make a cartoony head a few times and failed. but from what ive figured out. all the loops are the same as a realistic head. everything is more exagerated and stylized. if i were u id make a few different heads and pick the one u like best. the body is next to perfect.

yeah, the girl's head is the real challenge in this endeavor. Getting the cheeks and jaw right... I originally had her too wide there, and now smashed in too narrow.  Her head and body are actually low-poly, and then the final effect seen in the image above is after subdividing, so I was pretty surprised at how well formed the body came out as a result.

I added Jen's close-up face shot to the first message for better reference.

you know its funny, this reminds me of a question my wife asked me, she asked " why is it when you model a female you always get the body right but strugle with the head , hands and feet?" i have tried to explain those are more detailed parts but she seems to think it has to do with focus.

Ohhh now ya ain't facing your real self, mak... You have to fess up and say, "Well, I just enjoy those parts a lot! So I wanna get 'em right!"  Remember, we're guys, and even though we're surrounded by the 21st century women, we still have to stand up and speak it! The pendulum's swung way to far to the "W" now....

Even if the breasts were the hardest things to model, we'd strive to make them impeccable...  they're beautiful things
