Title: is there a better way to do this

first off i renderd this in open gl for time

im trying to create debree and ruble infront of this bolder as it hits the ground. i used fire from teran8or(sp?) and substituted a rock for the fire texture.( which my computer realy dosnt like) it looks like crap.
should i try differnt fire settings or mabee a difernt prog. or ..... your sugestions

and why dose terranim8or wipe out all my keys for the figures?

well for your debree a program with a particle system might be your answer. ive pondered getting a particle effect in anim8or. it might be tricky but you can use a series of transmaps. it will probably get tedious adding and deleting objects for each keyframe but if you make it right i think it will come out looking good. making the transmaps i dont think will be that hard. all you need is a program like photoshop or gimp(free) which has layers. that way you can hide the layers as needed untill you get ur full animation. then save each layer as a jpeg. with a little work i think you can get what u need. hope this helps.
