Post by: TheRetroZombie on December 12, 2009, 02:11:05 pm
I want to know how to make a reflection AND how to make shiny things.

There is a link the in the forum guide lines (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=2084.0):  ART raytracer (http://anim8or.com/download/preview/art_raytracer.html)

Didn't you see the project files on the ART raytracer page?  They pretty much have all the settings you'll need to understand.

This problem has been explained many times. If you simply search the forum you will get all the information you need.
for example (10 seconds search): http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=2580.0

i think it will make everything alot more easier if you just explain exactly what I'm suppose to do. Just give me directions. The link you gave me just doesn't help me at all. Even when I search reflections it doesn't show me anything.

i think you are not reading the thread very well my friend!

get a nice texture, nice mahogany wood say, set your ambient and specular as normal but ramp up the specular to 0.4 you can adjust it either way ...if you ramp it up to 1 you will have full reflection with no texture so showing, so be warned!

Now you see the attributes icon click that, then click "New",  then type in specular in the top box and then check "string" and type in reflection in the bottom box , don`t worry about the KS and Kr for now, ( You have to set attributes for them in the attributes box) u can mess about with those later ..... apply the texture to your plane then render .

Shimples.

When you double click the material, and the dialog box pops up, there's a button labeled "Attributes"

You should be using Anim8or V0.97d for this.  ART attributes were not available on V0.95.

The best way to think of ART attributes is as normal material settings that are too new to have their own settings in the material editor.  Steve has provided a way to apply these ART attributes without the necessity of redesigning the material editor interface, by directly defining variables in the code using the Attributes interface accessible by clicking the Attributes button in the Material editor.

The link below opens the ART documentation (a link to this was provided in an earlier post) which explains the different settings, and also provides downloadable examples for you to examine.  I STRONGLY recommend you download these examples and see how the various attributes have been created and what they do.  With the documentation, the discussion forum, and the examples, you should have more than enough info to understand the concept, certainly there is no better way to explain it.

Note:  The ART attributes, like reflectivity, will ONLY be visible in a render, not on your interface.

when I render a image of these models, like the ones that show reflection, it doesn't look like the ones in the pictures. They dont reflect from eachother.

Have you selected the ART renderer?  In Scene mode, click Renderer in the Render menu and select ART Raytracer.

The "script" is probably just the file itself.  Anim8or files are in plain text so your home computer might be opening them in notepad or something.  Opening these files in Anim8or on any computer should work.

right click the file and say "save file as" or whatever the equivalent is in your browser.
As Ensoniq5 said, Anim8or files are plain text files, therefore your browser opens them as such and simply shows text.  Right click and save to your computer so you can open them, and make sure you save them with a .an8 extension at the end.
