Christmas Special: Anim8or Christmas Tree!
Ornaments

That's right, Christmas time is coming up for many of us, and we moderators thought it would be a wonderful to get the community together to make an Anim8or Christmas Tree!  We'll provide the tree in the end, so what we need from you all are decorations, meaning ornaments!

So here's the deal.  We want everyone to participate by making their own ornament.  Get creative as you want, or stay as classic as you want.  Feel free to post renders here, but most importantly, be sure to attach the Anim8or file.  With this we can put all the different ornaments on the tree, and have a beautiful final render, which we can send to Steve as a Christmas Card "thank you!"

So bring your holiday cheer, and lets deck out our tree with all kinds of art!

Deadline: December 20th

I don't know what that has to do with the topic kreator.. maybe something for its own topic or something?

I made a typical christmas ball thingy, you can easily change the color , hiho, so it can be used a few times maybe

Are there any limits on ART usage? could slow the render down a lot if there's too much.

There are no limitations no, but if something is too intensive on the system we will simply change it.  If we can render it with ART, then all the better.  If not, then we wont!  Don't worry too much about how it will be put together, for now we need some beautiful ornaments :D

And great ornament there Simon!  Good way to start it off.  I'll see if I can get something simple up soon as well.

Great stuff by everyone!  Keep the ornaments coming, they're all looking fantastic.
Don't worry too much about the render time.  I'm sure it'll be high either way!  We're going to give it a few days to render, so the contest will most likely stop the 20th of December (10 more days!)

One problem with the cats, the image isn't saved with the file atm so you might wanna zip 'zem together.

WOW, I've seen a lot of wonderfull works here (I LOVE $imon's Ball, modelling and materials are easy but the result is amazing, respect)
Here is my one, ... after a lot of tests.
The An8 file contains the not yet subdivided model, the "Ball5" picture is the modell subdivided 2 times, and the "Fleur" picture is the texture I used for the Cubemap

Awesome job so far by everyone!  We're getting a great collection of ornaments.  Remember, you only have 4 days left to submit an ornament (you can make as many as you want of course!)

Awesome stuff!  I'm loving the creativity and diversity of the ornaments.  It should look great!
Remember there's only one day left for you to get your ornaments in, then I'll see what I can do about a render with them on a tree!
Keep up the good work.

I made a disco ball :P.

It uses actual reflections though, it should be simple just to assign it a cube map that was given for another ornament.

As my very minor contribution (I have no time for anything dammit) I have constructed some simple lights for the tree.  At the moment the lights are separate objects, since I would need the tree model to wire them all up, but I have included a wire loop if you wanted to rig them up with wires (it would probably be unnecessary, just positioning the separate lights would probably be the simplest option).

I have assumed that the final render will be animated, so I have included scripts to control the flashing of the lights.  One version (scene01) has all the lights flashing in unison, the other (scene02) causes the lights to flash in sequence.

This render was done with Scanline and at this stage there are no ART attributes included in any of the materials.  Not having the tree to play with I have made guesses regarding the light range attributes.  Should you decide to use these lights, please feel free to modify the materials and light settings, and anything else, accordingly.

Whoo baby!  Well done Ensoniq, that's brilliant.  I'll see what I can do, for now I'll keep it as a still scene, but animating it definitely sounds like something that should be done! (probably without ART though :/)

I rendered my ornament at a very small size and it went at a good speed, but if you do a close up - get ready to take a nap. Just don't zoom in to close on dielectric objects.

Here is a file for fake metal - The spheres have a lower specular than the twisted objects. You might have to play around with the spec. depending on the objects. Also on the fake metal the emissive is raised a little.

As far as dielectric - I'll try to come up with something

Well, due to the holidays and travel and what-not, I suspect that everyone's a bit busy this time of year (including myself and hihosilver). Therefore I invite anyone who's got the time to work on rendering a nice scene with all the ornaments on the Christmas tree and whatever backdrop you want, and post it up for all of us to see! I'll try to have my own version done by New Year's :)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!  I apologize I couldn't get an image up yet, still intently applying to colleges.  I'll see if I can do something once I finish them all (so close, yet so far away)
