Title: Ambient occlusion

i searched the forum for a while and didnt come up with much. I think i remember hearing about it but again i couldnt find it. so if any1 can give me a heads up on how to acheive it (then put it in kreators tutorial thread) that would be cool.

while researching ambient occlusion, i saw Phong shading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phong_shading
i think it looks pretty cool. i dont know a whole lot about texturing but i know alot of you guy like to experiment. i think this might be cool if some1 can figure out how to do it.

In anim8or,

Go to scene mode, go scene>attributes. Add a new attribute called 'AmbientOccluder' and set the int value to 1. To get the clay render look your should adjust your light setup: go setting>lighting. Change the global intensity to 0 and the ambient to 3.14. Set your AA to atleast 64 to get rid of the noise.
You can add lights to your scene while using the ambientoccluder, but (ofcourse) they will effect the lighting of the scene.

Ambient occlusion is definitely a great thing, it adds more depth to your scene and makes the whole thing look more realistic.
Just one note: when setting the global light intensity to 0, make sure you have at least one light in your scene. If there's no light, Anim8or uses a default light which is not affected by the global intensity settings...

As for Phong shading, as far as I know it's not anything "special".

In fact Phong shading is one of the most commonly used shading algorithms and it's the default shading method used in Anim8or - the Phong shading method is always used unless you add attributes to your materials and use the ART renderer.

thats some cool stuff. it slows the render down alot though but i think its worth it. heres what i rendered.

Im just starting to play Borderlands and notice that there is an ingame setting to turn on Ambient Occlusion.  However, in the profile it says that Ambient Occlusion is not compatible.

Is this a problem with the profile, or is settting to "on" ingame good enough?
