Like I have this mesh file I want to open in anim8or so I can edit it and stuff, but it would'nt allow it. So I tried renaming it from "test.mesh" to "test.an8" but it says everytime I try to open it
says "Error reading file" Is there any way to convert other meshes, so I can open and edit it in anim8or?

Just renaming a file won't work.
Anim8or can import :
3DS Max (.3ds), Lightwave (.lwo) and Wavefront (.obj) files
You will need to convert your mesh into any of these formats before you can import it ;)

What is .mesh?.. never heard of it.

i think .mesh might b autocad or something.
but if you go to the search on the forums. tyr searching conversion or somethng because ive seen posts talking about programs which converts a bunch of extensions like .x for instance.
im sure you can find something on the net tha6 will convert a .mesh into a .obj or .3ds. even if you have to inport your.mesh then export it into a .obj
hope this helped

Ok so how could I convert anything to a .3ds .lwo and .obj files?
Is there a software I can use for that?
-
im sure there are a few of them out on the net. i would try .mesh to .obj export or convert. i dont think it would take that long to find one.
personally i would go with .obj (i may be wrong here) i think when you export a model in 3ds it triangulates it. but in your case i would go with what ever works, you can always delete some lines in anim8or.
good luck gettin what you need.
you do seem a little confused though. this is how export works.
say you create a model. you exprt the model and it turns into a file. depends on what filetype you want it... you export your model in what ever format you want.
importing models is pretty much the oposite. you need a file to import into your program. so say some1 gave you a model in .obj or .3ds or what ever. you would go to your program and import that file (model) into your program.
thats pretty much all there is to it.

Just FYI but 3D Exploration is an excellent free file converter. Another free option is Biturn. Also, I believe Blender may be able to import the .MESH format, but it may only be able to export as I recall. As I recall someone also created an Orbiter export script for Anim8or.
