Title: Terains
Post by: flametiger74 on December 23, 2007, 02:55:16 pm
I was wondering is there a way to either wrap a terrain around a sphere to create a globe or make a globe terrain with terainim8or or another program.

with blender you can sculpt a terrain out of a sphere pretty easily and then import it into anim8or

i could probably make it for you if you want me too, just tell me what you want it to look like

well i've been wanting something like a valley sourounded by mountains so that the horizon isn't just flat but it looks like there's more there.

If you need just a piece of spherical terrain, not the whole sphere, you can do in Anim8or.
I would first make the terrain structures (valleys, mountains) normaly as you woud do if you didn't want to make spherical terrain. Then convert this flat terrain to cylindrical using bend modifier and convert cylindrical to spherical using bend modifier once more... I hope it make sense, if not I'll try to explain better. Good luck

Or, you could cut out a square piece of a highly subdivided long/lat sphere, UV map it so a texture extends just beyond its boundaries, then load it into Terranim8or. Displace it using a height map and put it back in Anim8or. Once in Anim8or, rotate and move the object until the terrain is at the origin.
