Title: LODs
Post by: runter on August 31, 2009, 09:17:35 am
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to generate LOD meshes from an original an8 file.
Thanks!

Sorry mate, no idea.  Anim8or can output meshes in a couple of formats, and there are plenty of free format converters available online.  I can only suggest doing a bit of web research and finding the right converter(s).  What is the LOD format used for?

LOD level of detail
copies of the same model made with lower number of triangle
mainly used in game to increase rendering speed
close to the camera:high LOD
far: lower LOD

Terranim8or has a decimator.It might help.

There's also a script:
Poly Reducer (Reduce Triangles)
Reduces a triangulated mesh anywhere between 1%-95% while preserving materials and UV Coords.

You could select the whole model and use "merge points" to lower the polycount.

Just make the threshold higher than usual.
