Is it possible in Anim8tor to have a large image containing lots of textures, and select the texture you want to use?
-
..like *.wad? I dont think so.. For all that I know the material system is based on separate textures/image files (difuse, spectacular, bump, etc)..
-
But Game Maker can only use one texture in 3d models. Now I am screwed.

Yes, it's called UV mapping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_mapping)
it's basically, assigning what part of an image will texture what part of an object.
Good programs to UV map with are UV mapper (http://www.uvmapper.com/) and Lithunwrap (http://www.sharecg.com/v/5169/software-and-tools/LithUnwrap---Free-UV-Mapper-for-Windows).
The upside I find for lithunwrap is that you can view the model in 3d as you unwrap the UV's. Uv mapper can in its pro version, but that costs money.
Here's a tutorial for using UV mapper (http://members.lycos.nl/jonim8or/uvtext_tut.html)
And This is a tutorial for UV mapping with Lithunwrap (http://www.mp3d.info/video/UVMAPPING_LITHUNWRAP.zip)
Both the tutorials are for Anim8or, but there should be much better tutorials on using the program not focused on anim8or in particular. I advise you check these out as well so that you know how to use the program. Use google and research UV mapping, how to do it, how to use the programs, and tips and tricks and all that.
Good luck! ;)

another really good free one is roadkill 3d. It's really professional. It lets you mark seams and pin like you do in professional programs.
I think it was originally a plugin for maya, but now there is a stand a lone version in which you can import your models into. It also shows you where there is stretching so you can see what you need to correct.
