Title: Need Help with Very Simple Problem
Post by: Ayzhong on July 27, 2009, 07:36:15 pm
Ok so I'm really new with Anim8or and i have a really simple problem which i know has a workaround because i've seen it in finished works with Anim8or. my problem is this: my animation in scene mode always starts at frame 0. For example, if I want a bat to swing and hit a ball, how do I make the bat start swinging at, say, 3 seconds. Whenever I try, the bat makes a long, slow movement starting from frame 0. Any help would be welcome. ;D

you need to add a keyframe from memeory go to the frame where movement should start, make sure the green key on the left is litup -click it, then move your object ever so slightly and put it bak in the same place.....
that makes a key frame
if things are weird check the graph editor Options>grapheditor
edit gotta acrappy memory
try double clicking the object in the scene drop down menu at bottom left... a key position editor window comes up
click add key and close window

heres an extra 2 cents.
When you are setting a key, there are 3 different types to choose from. smooth, or corner, or step. (?) If you want to start the motion from frame 24(eg), you would use a corner key on that frame. I've attached a link to a rather old morph tut. Although its about morphing, it does show the timetrack, and how to go about setting keys. Might be helpfull.

I think Headwax is saying that he`s either brain Dead, too many Foster's lagers or he`s caught too many waves.. G`day mate ;)

None of us Aussies actually drink Fosters... and we are kinda mystified as to why anybody else does, it's fairly awful stuff. Though, if that is Headwax's beverage of choice it would explain a fair bit...!
Ayzhong: Headwax just means that he thought of a better method to insert a keyframe, which does not involve moving the object.

A bit (quite a bit) off-topic, but now you've got my curiosity up. What is your preferred lager (or ale) of choice?

Thanks guys. You guys gave me a lot of help!!! :). Headwax's original solution works perfectly but I will also try out Johnar's idea. I've been stuck on this problem for quite a while now and until now I hadn't thought of using the forum. I got lots of replies a bit faster than i expected... ;D

Ayzhong: you did exactly the right thing, trying to figure it out yourself first then asking for help here. Problems with keyframing and unexpected object motion are not dealt with very well in the manual, and they can be tricky to understand.
Rudy: Fosters was one of a range of beers made in Melbourne at Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), and although the best known it was never the most popular CUB beer. From what I am told by travelling friends the Fosters available overseas bears little resemblance to the local offering, but I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing, frankly. Pretty much every Victorian pub (bar) has Carlton Draught on tap, and Victoria Bitter would outsell all others at the bottle shop three to one I reckon (these are both from the CUB stable). These days, there is a huge range available, both imported from around the world and recently some really excellent product from local microbreweries (Mildura brewery has some EXCELLENT beers available). My personal favorite (at the moment) is Boag's Draught, a fresh Tasmanian beer available on tap at my local, the Notting Hill pub. Next week it might be a German offering like DAB or Bittburger, or perhaps something from the emerald isle like Guinness or Kilkenny. It depends on the weather too, in cold weather I am more likely to head for a Guinness or a Tooheys Old, in the summer it will be a fresher option like Becks or even Vic Bitter if I feel like slumming it. Hmmm...all this typing is making me thirsty...
(apologies for the off-topicness of this post)
