Title: [ COMPLETE ]Challenge #4: Indoor Render
Post by: hihosilver on May 24, 2009, 02:50:42 am
Challenge #4: Indoor Render

The new challenge has arrived, this time it involves rendering!

The goal of this challenge is to create an indoor environment, whether it be a living room, bedroom, dining room, cellar, whatever you can think of, and make the most stunning render you can.  Though the render must be done in Anim8or, some minor post production can and is encouraged to be used.  The final product must be a still image, so get to work Anim8ors!

 ;D

Deadline:  2 weeks (June 6!)

Judging:  Judging will be based on the most attractive looking image, whether it be realistic, stylistic, dark or shiny and new.  Whatever attracts people the most will get the most votes, so make it look good!

#1 Alright, and here is my first update, Just framing things out... Still have to get some thresholds put in and some windows if need be. More to come soon!

Ncl32
Nate

#2 Another progress render! A door way! I know, why would I frame the entire room out? Because I have plans! That and it adds to the realism factor. ;)

#3 Yet again another update! There are now a window, and closet framed out. And a hole in the concrete... Hmmm. Where could I be going with this? Well you'll just have to find out!  ;D

#4 Yet another update! Added a wood tile floor. And yet again more to come!

Ncl32
Nate

#5 Yet another update! Added a wood tile floor. And yet again more to come!

#6 Okay I got some more to show, I have the "drywall" up, and I did some trim around the "mini pool"/ jacuzzi. I hope you guys like this! ;D  Plus I will tell you that in the end there is a surprise that some of you who know of me will get a kick out of!

Ncl32
Nate

Oh and btw, room is scaled approx. 14'x14' with 9' ceiling.

#7 hey guys, yet again another update! Semi textured, but still a lot to do.

Oh I'm totally gonna make an entry for this one! Lets test out anim8or to the Max ;)

Nice work so far ncl!  looks like youre working pretty accurate..
Is it going to be a bath-room, full of steam etc? I like the idea.

good challange. i am going to do an office theme for this topic, i've all ready finished the shelf.

Thats a cool looking shelf you have there menamarco! Cant wait to see it along with the rest of that office. ;) And $imon thanks for the comment. Not going to lie, I have done some trim carpentry on stain-grade homes before for a while. And while doing so I would model rooms and stuff.

As for something that has me confused... Why were all of my progress renders deleted besides the most current one? Just wondering  ??? Bandwidth? or just because it looked like I was hoging the topic...  :D I kept checking up on the topic and didnt see anyone post all day. so i just kept posting. lol. So should I start a serperate topic in the WIP section for my progress renders? Any way thanks though guys! And I will be posing more soon!

You don't have to start a new topic in the WIP section. You can post your progress here.
I edited you posts and merged them into one. Please do not double post of not completly necessary. Just edit you post. I'm sorry i could not save you progress renders only the last one. You can upload them again when you edit you post.

I might enter if i get enough time to finish my idea, but heres a concept idea I threw together.
Ps. yay for five gum on the table, but i need a higher res texture.

nearly finished the base model for this project, just got to add some lights and effects, but i beleave my laptop will not be able to cope with the render so i placed this example of what it should look like just in case.

Post by: $imon on May 27, 2009, 09:48:46 am
Navek: thats quite an extraordinary design, not sure where its going, but good luck on that :)

Menamarco; very stylized room. All computers can handle the renders, it just takes a bit longer haha! I hope you can make a nice final render of it.  (what is behind the door with the keypad? )

Heres an update on my hallway, just added the table and teapot as props to see how the shadows react. I dont like the ceiling ornament just yet so i will change that.. and more details to come of course!

Holy crapazoid there $imon, loving your renders man. after this comp i would love to question you about your lighting tech to see if it matches my own. Any way, every body is coming along great I cant wait to see some of the work that comes out of this comp! Good luck everyone!

and Ill be posting some updates soon. My 8 year old gateway laptop with the screen that is only attached by the wires, and not to mention has to be plugged in all the time is having fun with me throwing a mere 2000 faces at it... lol

Nice work $imon, looking excellent (as expected!).  One minor thing I can pick on, which is not so much a modelling or rendering issue as a handyman one, is the uneven spacing of the door hinges.  If this is intentional ignore me, it just kinda stood out a bit.  Also the AO layer is a bit grainy, but no doubt this is just for the WIP and the final image will be finer.  A really beautiful image so far, well done!
Title: Re: Challenge #4: Indoor Render
Post by: $imon on May 27, 2009, 06:07:18 pm
Thanks guys!

Ensoniq; im glad you pointed out the hinges, cause i messed up a little bit, in fact, the middle one is a bit below the center instead of above it. This because when you stand in front of it, it gives the illusion of it being in the middle (at least that is what they are like in my house)
I did not use an AO layer on this image, its a straight render from anim8or with a few local lights & directional lights from the outside. Its rendered with only 16 samples so i hope the grain will go away for the final render :)

Updates coming!

dunno where I`m going here but some test shots done to find my way!!

on a side note stuck four wine glasses on a table with a Glass cruet set and the renderer was on all night with no progress!

Can the render be done with a different renderer??   ART is just sooooo slowwwww!!  The final image of the resturant  is with AA off!!

Amazing setup there Kreator.

I liked the ambience in your scenes.  Extraordinary color theme and soothing lights.

Thumbs up!!!  Looking at the jagged edges, I think you have deliberately kept the antialiasing off.

thank you for the comment about my room $imon, the final render is looking very good, but it seems that you have overestimated my laptop capibilities as it has been 2 and a half days, it is only 2/3 done and its only 800 by 300. hopfully it will finished in the next 12 hours so i can put it on here to be judged. then hopfully i will be able to make a larger picture that will be finish befor the deadline. then whats behind the keypad door you ask, it might be a smallish weapon storage area or a secret lab, it could be anything?

Yep you are quite right. It was taking soo long just for a test render I decided to dispense
with AA.

These are further renders with Carrara..... The same single scene is rendering on another machine in Anim8or ART 48 hours at the moment quarter done ( worried it may crash!)

FINALLY!!! my render just finally finished, it took just about 3 days to render. sorry that it is small, but i wasn't going to risk going over the dead line. i've just started on a 1600 by 600 render hopfully it will be ready by the dead line but i have my douts. if the other render isn't done by the deadline, this is my entry.

Wow, great work guys, too bad I can't join in the fun, I have so much work to do, maybe in the next challenge though.
menamarco, that's some good stuff you have going on in your place, although it does feel a bit empty, maybe put a dining table and chairs behind the couch in that empty space?

Excellent work so far by everyone!  These are all really great renders, I'm impressed.
Sorry Kreator, but the final renders to be judged must be done in Anim8or.

Yeah, I guessed that.  I think its just the point that I`m trying to put over that ART is really too slow at the moment !!

Still here is One Anim8or rendered shot  only 3 days to render, with another final still in the pipeline should be finished by the deadline.

Great work everyone. All your work is look'n pretty good.

I haven't done a render in anim8or for a long time, and this gave me a chance to try the new occlution shader so I went ahead and made this render. Took 2 days.

I used Photoshop and anim8or versions .95 .97d for this image.

Wow great work guys!

kreator: Nice mood you have going on, I think the lighting could improve a bit though, at the moment the big contrast makes it hard to see what is going on in the scene.

dwsel: thats a great render, i like the soft look!

Starbuck: great as usual! are you sure you rendered that in anim8or? hahaha.. its really great.. could you share some of the lighting effects you did? like the light on the walls and the look of the window.
The blur is just right, nice touch!

Here is my final render.. I didnt have much time at all these weeks so i had to cut it short.. not really satisfied about anything in the image.. but I wanted to enter something anyway!

Good job everyone!

astonishing realism, spirit lifting stuff starbuck i am humbled.
heres my effort, mine is bordering on daft in comparison.
redecorated room, and attempted sunlight addition, which is a texture
made in photoshop and rather embarrasingly i've just realised it's upside down
or the wrong way around....sheesh >:(

well guys its been a while since i updated. I have finished the work, now im just waiting for the render. I am rendering my scene at 960x540 @ 256 samples of AA... Its going to take a while. lol. But I cant wait. As for the scene, it will have a surprise for some of you that know of some of my past projects. Needless to say character is also apart of my scene. ;) As soon as it gets done rendering I will post ASAP.

OKAY and here it is! It took a while to render. That is almost a whole day at that. Any way as you can see I took a more cartoon like approach. I was going to go for the whole realistic thing but after looking on the forum I decided to diversify. Also you will notice "doob" in the scene. Some of you have seen him before in one of my older post. Well he is blue and chilling in the mini pool I made for him, so he's happy.

Any way I hope all of you like it! And happy voting on the winner of this contest!

Ncl32
Nate

P.S. I do realize that there are two major flaws but after all that time to render I will have to do a follow up render fixing this one at a later date. Water bump map stretching, and the plant stand on the right is clipping into the chair rail...

I am not sure if I will Be to late or not. I Am trying to Render a Small version of my scene with a better Camera Angle (and it is taking FOREVER). If I am able to post it do not be suprised by it's simplicity As I Have only been Moddling 3D for a few months...

Here though is a Shot of The Completed Scene (But not the other Camera Angle) It does not Have AA turned on...
Title: Re: Challenge #4: Indoor Render
Post by: Jdez on June 08, 2009, 08:28:24 am
I was able to get the other camera Angle(which exludes the untextured legs of the table) But again It was taking to long with AA and I was really busy so no AA... Sorry.

Sure, I can give a quick explanation.

I use 4 lights to light my scene. 2 omni, 1 spot and 1 area.

(http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8425/lights1d.th.jpg) (http://img7.imageshack.us/i/lights1d.jpg/)

I rendered the image.

(http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/3271/2desertedroomlayer1edit.th.jpg) (http://img7.imageshack.us/i/2desertedroomlayer1edit.jpg/)

Then I render an AO pass.

I rendered the chair and used it to make a cheap depth of field mask.

I also made a mask for the window for the dust and the lightrays.

Then I composed all the layers and added some more blurring and other effects.

Not much of an explanation, but if I had more time I would go into more detail. I hope that helped a little.
