Well every time I click on one of them and click render, a bunch of different spheres come up on the render.
What are they for?... I don't know.

Perhaps Steve used them to test out the raytracer for 0.97x
They were probably built into Anim8or so Steve didn't have to keep reopening them.

They where inplanted to test the ART renderer.

Well now that I know, I'll quick clicking on them trying to see what they do. HAHAHAHA! :P
