when i use lines and try to make an umbrella and then lathe it,it fills the area where there was supposed to be a hole. ???

Relax, fireking2009. It's easy to do what you're after, but you need to understand the basics, first. Have you read the Manual, and tried any of the tutorials, yet? They're a great help.

Fireking2009: THis is a kinda slow moving forum, because we are generally too busy Anim8ing to spend much time here. In the latheing dialog box there are settings for controlling how the ends of splines are managed when lathed. The default is "closed" for both the start and end of the spline, which will have the effect of filling in both ends of your lathed object with a circular disc. The "point" option pulls the start and/or end points to the lathing axis, creating a point, and the "open" setting leaves the end open. For an umbrella based on a simple spline, I would probably set the top to "point" or "closed", and the bottom, or outside of the spline to "open". You will need to remember at which end you started to create the spline, so you know which end is the start and which is the end.
