You can make a glass material by lowering to transperancy. Glass normally has a transperancy of about 0.3 to 0.4.
Using ART attributes you can make real time refractions and reflections.

Read more about it here: Materials (http://anim8or.com/manual/10_materials.html), ART Attributes (http://anim8or.com/download/preview/art_raytracer.html).

I haven't mucked with the ART glass effect either... I copied the sample of green glass things and opened it with anim8or, trying both 97a and 97d, but both show all the objects' texturing as simply transparent shapes with a surface shine.

What am I missing that should be set to bring about the greenish warped refraction?  I'd like to implement the effect for a soda bottle and some salt/pepper and sugar shakers.

Make sure your render is set to ART Ray Trace, not scan line. render > renderer > ART Ray Trace, ok

It's all about the attributes applied to the material. Open the material window and you will see a button called 'attributes'. Here you can add attributes to your material. i.e. the attribute 'class' with the string value 'dielectric' will give a glass like refraction to the material. Using the 'IOR' attrbutes with changing int values you can alter the refraction: 1 = no refractions, 1.4-1.6 = glass, 2.5 = diamond and so on.

Hey Floyd! I did a bit of "monkeying around" with the green-glass spheres and prism file... using that set of texture/material I modeled a bottle, with an inner and outer lining and also a "soda" to see what would come of it...

The inner bottle sections are smoothe, basic bottle form, while I decided to "bump" the outer section, sort of Coke-but-not-Coke in looks...

I think if I make the inner "soda" area smaller the glass of the bottle will stand out more...

I suppose I should make the top.

second render... increased size of outer "bumpy glass"

Also, I haven't finished off the top, so the bottle doesn't have its proper lip yet...

Took about 15 minutes to render each time.

And here's the "empty" bottle... by far the longest render time... I dunno for sure, somewhere between 15 mins and 30....

Nice bottle arik. Maybe a background (default groundplane?) will make the refractions stand out even more!

And here, final form of the bottle I want to use... Will get it in a scene, incorporating with my diner work...

I had to increase the green to get it to look right.

Now to make the bottle cap and labeling :D Taking it back to my "Noon Diner" thread for further "Show and Tell."

Think you IOR might be a bit too high atm. Thickness and shape looks good.

Oh sorry i know the answer to that now...

I put "AniNoob for Life" on my siggy because sometimes I think I have a permanent handicap in this area... So, assume I'm in the "Special Education" Department?  ;)  What is "IOR" and how do I adjust it....?

Also, here's a "stages of the bottle" from the point where I finished the basic bottle, then started to make the bumpy-bits and twists.... plus the "inner soda" and "bottle cap" off to the side.  As you see, I made the bottle "inside and out", so as to get the look of an "empty" if I wanted it without the soda.

I think floyd mentioned Index of refraction Arik, just add IOR to your list of attributes then the appropriate float value 1.4? 1.5? perhaps you could find a Indices table by googling.

@kreator: yes i ment index of refraction, which is an attribute which can be added to the material. It controls the amount of refraction a material will have. Glass has about 1.3-1.6. I posted a link a couple of posts back (^) which contains most of the common IOR values.

Found it! Thanks, kreator and floyd!  I've decided I'm going to start compiling common terms and abbreviations to make a sort of anim8or dictionary/glossary that would refer to what each term means and explain where each term/command/etc. can be found... Have been thinking about doing this for quite some time, and no time like now to get started.

wow! That's good for you. Hope you could share your compilations. I think I need one as well.
