Ye i kind of remember you, from when i just started ;).

Really nice work there G3! The texturing is great. What is it exactly going to be?? It looks like some sort of vehicle right now.
Mind sharing us a wire frame?

Keep it going!

Great texturing aswell.

wow, that is attention to detail, very nice, how long have you been working on this?
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: G3 on April 17, 2009, 10:54:06 am
I don't personally think this is really Detail Focused modeling

it is rather roughly done

and i have taken a day to model it, untill now

it's toe is not me likey, would you recommend one? :P
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: Samukun on April 17, 2009, 04:24:37 pm
That is crazy rad skills. The only thing about it is probably the toes, as you mentioned. It doesn't look like such a hulking mech will be able to support itself on toes that skinny. I'd expect them to be more bulky like the rest of the mech.

Also, I expect it should be more heavily armed in terms of weaponry. All I see are quad rocket pods.

Well, I guess that is true, a lot of the shapes aren't overly complex, but there are a lot of shapes making up the Mech, which is what I'm guessing is making it so visually appealing.
BTW: I personally think it would look better without the ends of the feet (the orange squares).

The texturing is really amazing, great patina. And anim8or renders?

Quality work.

The rendering is now so slow and heavy

i couldn't get any bigger image of this   :(

That's awesome! Did you use any other software, or just Anim8or? Methinks you ought to be writing tutorials if you're this good!

Amazing!  Your texturing style really makes this stand out.
Ha, I can almost see it being a frog-like mech!

Post by: Arik_the_Red on April 25, 2009, 08:49:23 pm
Wow!  That's wild! The general shape, textures, and the whole composition is really powerful and plausible!  Except, as stated before, the feet look a bit too dainty... I'd expect to see some pretty big "toes" to balance that mass of tonnage!

Yeah, G3, I remember you. I also missed your BEAUTIFUL renders.

I need to know how you do this.

...I officially hate you...
Nah, you give me hope ...sad, sad hope that I will one day get that good!

Anyway...

All of this was 100% made in Anim8or and from your own doing? No Trickery, no 3ds Max, (Or other programs) or used a tutorial?

If all of this was done in Anim8or I've still got some serious skills to aspire too. Once finished will you make a tutorial on making it, if only for us lowly peasants, sire (HA HA)

Maybe Aric wasn't talking about the model . . . maybe he liked hiho's literary style and felt it needed to be pointed out.

Holy sweet mother of--

I better step it up a notch. If crazy crap this awesome looking is possible in anim8or, then I'm obviously not using it to its full potential.

Thanks for all your concerns.

Well this model is only done in anim8or

I didn't use any other 3D program but I used paint shop to make textures and to give them FOD effect.

texture streches!!!!

Well while i was rendering this thing , it have gotten too many errors.

likely if i try to render in 700X700 when it get to the middle of it sometimes it just show the error message and  just disappears , the render only sucsesses while the rendering preview function is disabled by some strange power of universe (rendering preview seldomly goes wrong  and show up X that is now fine to me)

another problem is Time   after the model gets detail , it is continually going slower and now... it takes about 5 hours it is not a long period compare to my older job but still to much for this model i think.

That took five hours to render one still frame? wow!

Looks great! The extra cage work and chains are awesome!  Is it remote-controlled/robotic, or piloted?
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: $imon on April 29, 2009, 11:01:04 am
Great work! really awesome..

5 hours is very long, but a very nice result!

It would be nice if you rendered out a AO pass and overlay that in paint shop to get some shadows in the corners.

Very  nice design and work!

Keep going

the best anim8or piece I've ever seen! shows its true potential...

The texturing is awesome! it really makes the whole thing stand out!
I'm terrible at texturing, and there are only a few tutorials out there teaching how to properly texture map in anim8or (at least that I'm aware of)...*you should do a tutorial on texturing!XD)

congrats...everything looks superb g3!

GREAT JOB!! Wow...this image really shows anim8or's full potential. Did you use a UV mapping program to texture the mech or did you just use anim8or's built in UV modifier? I'd really like to know  :)

Thank you  ;)

(sorry for MEGA-MEGA BUMP ::))

//Arik I considered making it look as piloted

//$imon What is AO pass ???

I used manual UV modifier

Recent one Rendered in anim8or, took 18hours and you can see on the second pic is retouched with paintshop

this model is now too heavy to work on my laptop i need someone to help arranging this on figure to sequence, and i accidently used 'convert into solid' whole the leg part
it is unable to model the last part like the 'toe' that everyone mentioned

also, it would be better to show me which kind of design would be proper
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: Arik_the_Red on July 30, 2009, 01:23:30 am
wow! I'd be curious to see how long that would take to render on my PC.

Whooooo!
I'm blown away as always G3.  That's really amazing.
I have to wonder, do you think these renders look so amazing because of the texturing mainly or the detail of the modeling? or a combination of both?
Amazing amazing mate.

Really nice work G3! Amazing model and detail. I don't really like the second pic. I might look better if the background was done in anim8or too instead of added later on. It now looks too much like you pasted it on a background. Same goes for the driver...
But the model itself is stunning, beautiful work!

Hey G3, I think the new challenge is made for you, with the nice models and the wonderful textures you make!
Will you join it? If yes, I give up for this challenge (Just joking ;), I hope to see your work there)

Completely, completely, blown away. That is awesome. It would look nice in Call of Duty. =P Also, it'd be superb in a movie. =]

Really, truly, amazing, amazing, and mesmerizing. =]
Keep it up, man.

i'm sorry for the *slight* BUMP, but i had to say...wowly crap...this is amazing.

You could drag select the faces near the general area and press "c" thendetatch the faces. :/ It would take a while, but it'd work.

Umm... How did you manage to make this :P. I consider that movie quality. When you get around to animating this, could you possibly resize it to the size of an avatar for public use :P.
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP

I've been on holiday for 6 months, and this is the first 3D render I've seen. I am completely stunned, thinking "Anim8or doesn't do this.... right?".

Simply amazing job. I've got to agree with some of the posts here, it is really hard to tell what makes some models absolutely stunning compared to the rest. Is it mainly in a good texture? Is it a detailed model (how many polys do you have?)? Is it just making sure that everything is perfect? (meaning no overlapping polys, no sharp changes etc).

Still, whatever it is, your model has it. Though I think I agree the feet should be longer / bulkier.
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: karate5662 on August 24, 2009, 06:07:01 pm
I think what makes this a truly stunning piece, is that everything has it's place. I looks functionaly and nothing is out of place.
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: xalener on August 24, 2009, 11:04:41 pm
Just replicate exactly what you want to see. Nothing less than that is remotely acceptable. That's how you make a good model.
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: JakeArts on September 14, 2009, 07:44:33 pm
Well i have to say that it does look delicious but there is a reason. You have killer texturing skills and they always treat the eye even to the point of distraction. In my opinion, all you need to do is be able to make somthing like this without all the "unnecessary-overlapping polys" thats the only thing holding it back from being Pro-quality.
My personal opinion on the mech is:
(1) Delete the Hip cages (the Head cages are beutiful, keep them)
(2) Delete all ball and chains
(3) Suggest, maybe that the 2 Non-artillry guns (machine guns on the side) be deleted, as
artillery never has that sort of defence. There are always Strike class or Defender class units
posted with artillry, to keep them safe.

This logic comes from my opinion that Asian culture loves to over-do things, for example.
*Gigantic swords, bigger than the person holding them.
*3-foot tall spiked hair.
*Mechs with huge piles of weaponry they could NEVER hold up.
I personally think all these things are silly; I like realism.
And we have all ruined art before by over-working it, I think you had it good
before many of your extras were put on.
The 3 big guns on top are 'nessissary' because it is an artillery unit and the head
cage was a great touch; but I stress that you rebuke the 3 things I listed at the top of this post.

All that been said, Good work dude!
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: xalener on September 15, 2009, 04:21:54 pm
Who said he was striving for 100% realism? Of all the things to crit the guyon, stylistic choice shouldn't be one of them. That's the artist's call. That's ALWAYS the artist's call.

That's why I like Halo. It doesn't strive for realism... The only realistic aspects are there to make it relatable. It doesn't take crap from other game devs either (grey, blue, and brown. Steel bolts and meathooks). It does it's own thing visually.
Title: Re: Artillery Mech WIP
Post by: JakeArts on September 15, 2009, 07:00:24 pm
Yes, I know. Thats why I made it 'very clear' that those were just personal 'SUGGESTIONS'.
The only real beef I have with it are the Unseen Polys (Overlapping Shapes).

You know, the whole point of this section is for your works to be 'Critted' to see what others
think or feal about it. If sombody has 'opposing opinions' about a work, thats the whole point of
posting here so, peace bro, make love not flames  :-*
