Title: Ship
Post by: Boywonda1 on March 12, 2009, 11:30:22 am
My design for the Space series project, tell me if you like it, your opinions and suggestions matter.

Its supposed to be a Freighter[is that the term?] a military spaceship that can launch smaller fighters.

Its looking good, some nice modelling skills there. It does look a little like a long tank, however im sure you'll be able to change that. Give it some distinct appearances that are simular to space ships that you have seen on TV.

I like the design too, its different and I like that :)
Nice compartments for the ships to (At the bottom). Good work, im impressed. Keep it up

EDIT: Maybe it could be a Space Carrier?

Good start. It could use some more detail however. Some random boxes sometimes do alot. Also are the satelliet dishes abit big relative to the little ships.

i'm liking it!  i especially like the radars and things - although they're a bit oversized (like floyd said), they're very nicely modelled.

It does look a little like a long tank, however im sure you'll be able to change that.
in a military setting, tank=good, isn't it?  i think it wants a few gubbins adding on the underside, but generally, the tank-esque hull shape looks really good.

Maybe it could be a Space Carrier?
i'll second that suggestion :)

Man this is cool, impressive! it does need detail, and i'm sure your working on that, just don't damage the ship in the process of fixing its proportions, and i wonder what texture could work on it? ...?

Thanks for the comments.I am planning on putting those 'distinct' features and 'random boxes' soon. I have been spending my time on space series so i'll try updating it soon.
Plus I was aiming for it to look military like so hope making it 'tankish' isn't a bad approach

No, i think the tankish approach was different and unique. :)
I do agree with thecolcough, the dishes are oversized. Remember you want to make the ship look big so you'll have to equal this out.

I do have a few suggestions though, if you'll hear me out?

Well the size really depends on the size of what it's carrying, right? If those are single-seater fighters, then it may not be to much out of proportion.
I like the idea though. Generic space stuff is fighters come out of the hangar bay of the really big ships. I like this idea of a "troop transport" of sorts. Maybe the rectangular shape could be used as a way to compact them into the larger ship's dock? This way they could stack like modular additions to the hangar and save space, and during battle they could all launch and spread out. Too many sci-fi shows have shown the flag ship being blown up and losing all the fighters.

(Message from my artist):With the design of human ships we need them to look more practical than them looking more symetrical, such as look at a normal sea carrier how i has a runway on oneside and the flight deck on the other. This is what we are looking for thankyou for trying though.

I still like the tank approach however.

Anyway.I did tyhink of the carrier approach, but i was worried it'd be too long :? but i will try to make it more "practical" just in case you might need it later.
Thanks  for the comments though.:)

Spicy :So i took a look at some carrier pics and blueprints and i was wondering if you could just enlighten me on how "practical" the ship could be.I suppose maybe you could send me some sketches to get an idea of what you mean.
