What do you want to achieve with ART since you can do alot with it. I assume you want to make reflections?
It's pretty easy: make a material, click attributes. Here you can create attributes for the raytraced material. i.e.: Make a new attribute >Type in specular and go to string and type in reflection> ok. Now the material will reflecte the surroundings depending on the specular value: 0=no reflection 1=mirror.

Simple: create a new attribute call it class then go to string and type in the type you want i.e. dielectric or transparent. If you want to have glossy or reflection make a new attribute and call it specular then go to string and type in reflection or glossy.
Make sure you download the examples, this will make it easier to understand.
