Title: flying v
Post by: Mr. Becker on January 21, 2009, 03:30:26 pm
i'm starting a project in my spare time.  Its gonna be my rendition of a flying v.  If for whatever reason you don't know what that is, look it up or something.  But anyway, I don't intend it to be a totally photorealistic guitar.  I'll post updates here every few days.  Criticism and such is very, very welcome.   :D

sweet. textures and materials are my weak points.  if you can point me in the right direction of those (or set one up for me) i would be much obliged. :)

so day one is over now. i've got the rough shape of the body, bridge, and headstock.  Some of the edges are still a bit rough, but ill work on that later.  and sorry about the color of the background on the pics, i know its bright.  Anyway, heres a few views.

Good start. You should indeed work on those rough edges, but that will come. keep it going!

k its been a while since i've posted anything on this.  Frankly, its cause ive been busy.  but i have put frets on the neck and some of the pickups and controls on the body.  For some reason, the edges on the guitar are taking on a purplish hue, i'm not sure why, but hey its a work in progress.  If anybody has a link to where i can get a better view of what the pickups and such look like, i would be very grateful if you would share  :P.  Anyway, here is what i  got so far.

thanks.  i'm hoping to later add a bump map or something to add ridges and such along the sides.
but as i was modeling i realized something, the strings are gonna be trouble.  any ideas? i was thinking just extending a cylinder and bending it to fit on the neck and headstock.  (btw i'm not a guitar player, just a metal head who loves this piece of history. so sorry if i get any terminoligy of whatnot wrong)

The strings can be done with extruding a spline. Draw a spline where the string is going to be and make a n-gon (the amount of sides is all up to you: 12 sides should be enough, but you can also choose 6 sides and subdivide afterwards.). Then select the n-gon go Build>extrude, click 'path'>ok and then click on the spline. Then simply copy the string 6 times.

don't worry bout it, you're not nagging. i asked people to tell me if they wanted another angle.  but yea, i decided to make a stand for it. thats in progress right now.
