Title: how to bend a flat plane?

i am trying to figure out how to take a flat square plane and give it a curve/bend as if for a lable around a round bottle??

You can't bend just one face. A face is always flat and can't have a curve. What you can do is use multiple faces to create a curve.
Use the edge extrude tool ((http://anim8or.com/manual/buttons/b_edge_extrude_u.gif) in point edit mode to add faces.

A simple way is to make a copy of your bottle then delete the top and the bottom. Then delete everything else from the body until you are left with the size of the label. Ever so slightly enlarge the label and it will fit the curve of your bottle.

I am not sure if this helps,but try creating a plane using a cube(with one of the axes set to 0) and ad more divisions to the other axes.applying a bend modifier creates a nice bend.hope this helps.:)
