Title: Thing
Post by: Raxx on December 31, 2008, 07:02:24 am
Well, it's kind of a dinosaur, I guess. Saw it in a manga I read and figured I'd model it to see how rusty I've gotten.

Since we've got two more global moderators now, I have a lot more free time!

How far will I take it? Dunno :P

(Just kidding,  moderating you guys is a snap, thanks for behaving ;))

Great modelling, I'm just a bit confused does he has a beak or a funny nose with a mouth underneath ;D

Congratulations Floyd !

That's a fun model raxx, and some nice topology!  Do you plan to texture this model as well?  I don't know if I've seen too much completed work from you ;)

Great to see you back in the swing of things though!

Yes, thanks for the mesh and   render comparison. Interesting to see how  you have done things.

Tell me, for the eye, how   did you get the perfect circle to it in the socket? Joined two meshes? Started with the eye  when building the mesh?

For a reptile maybe the eye could be a different shape, particularly with that weird inner  eyelid they sometimes have.

err nictitating membrane

must be for nictitating. :)

Chocobo cousin? lol

Anyway, very nice model. Wish I could organics :(.

Oh,  "...moderating you guys is a snap, thanks for behaving..." Well, if you want I can make things interesting? lol J/k

Chocobo? I'll believe the chicken part but a chocobo...

I admit I feel like modeling one now but does it even look like a distant relative?         ...nah....

Suppastar, the more boring the better ;)

headwax: Mostly I start working on the socket with a general idea on how it should be shaped, then I add the eye, then I shape the socket around it. Also, I don't usually use a perfect sphere either, I typically flatten it just a little bit (I don't think eyes are completely spherical in real life anyway). I'm going to be giving the eyes that slit-shaped pupil that lizards have, but I don't think I'll be doing much to the shape of the eye itself...though I'm thinking of a good solution for the eyelids. I don't plan on animating this right now but you never know.

Samukun, thanks!

hihosilver: Thanks, texturing would help give it the reptilian look he's supposed to have. I think the lack of the scaly skin was what helped make him look like a chicken. Can't say that I'm in full swing right now so who knows if I'll finish this one :P

lynn22, it's a beak-ish mouth ;) I'll be opening it up and giving him teeth and stuff soon enough.

floyd86, I agree with you the most out of everyone here. He did look like a chicken, now he just looks like a...dinosaur thing.

Just showing you guys where I'm taking it. It's going to have a bipedal dinosaur body, something like this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/Alioramus1.jpg).

Woah, now it *definitely* does not look like a chocobo...

I have no idea how you wire those meshes so well... Whenever I try making anything more complicated than just a basic geometric shape, everything falls apart very quickly. XD

so is he going to be on two legs or four?

Also eyes have more of an oval shape but it depends, people that are more far sighted have more oval and vise versa.

Great muscle and crease detail
