Title: An additional feature
Post by: Inxth on December 11, 2008, 05:05:22 pm
OK, people might think I'm crazy, but why not make a GE like *gulp* Blender????? :'(

Because GE "brings good things to life" :P
I think you are refering to a graphical Interface. However That takes time to design, create, and link to all of the existing and CHANGING features. This takes out alot of precious time that could have been used to make Anim8or even better. This is also why there are new Attribute boxes. That way Steven doesn't add buttons for things that end up being trashed. Hope this answers your question.
If not, perhaps you will define GE for us nincompoops. :)

Blender's graphical interface is its main drawback. It's a notoriously unfriendly thing to learn. On the whole, I like Anim8or's simple interface.

I agree with Maxfield,
Anim8or interface is very good, very INTUITIVE..

GE = Game Engine

D'oh! Forgot about that. Never used Blender's game engine. I was wondering why anybody would want an interface like Blender's!

An awesome game engine attached to Anim8or sure would gee golly us but there's a single word that explains why it's probably not going to happen, can you guess what it is?

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.
--The Hobbit

Or in Anim8or-speak:

This thing all requests devours:
Coding, testing, debugging, releasing;
One man, one program;
5 lines of code takes 3600 ticks;
Denies delusions, denies requests,
And Steve's got none of it.

Duh. Shows how much I know. Anyway. An engine is an engine. Be it for complex rendering or simplistic Gaming. Anim8or's intended purpose is within the realm of animation. We don't need a second engine. It would take too much of Steve's time. Take blender and stuff it.

Mabye we could get a game engine in Anim8or after version 2?

Maybe.  You never know.  Right now we can't look that far into the future.  Especially to version 2.
Version 0.6 was released 8 years ago, in 2000.  It's now almost to version 1.0
So version 2 is most likely somewhat far away.
A game engine created by Steve is probably not that likely, but the direction he's headed, it seems like he'll make Anim8or very user friendly so that other people could create a game engine much easier.  (There already are some game engines that have been created and are in the process of being created, such as Cre8or and the polly game engine which is in the process of being built.)

Remember this entire program is created by one person.
