I just recently made this a few days ago. the handle was simple for me but the blade took four tries I think. well here it is ;D. (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9646/knfie2hk9.png)

Looks real good.
I suggest to put a specular / glossy attribute on the blade, starting from the width of the handle and ending at the point of the blade, your knife will then look really real ;)

Great start, The light from the rear casting the shadow at the front looks good IMHO I would loose the light from the front casting the rear shadow.
Very nice

yeah thanks for the comments. and since i've been using an older version (version c think) how would i add those attributes

I recommend to download anim8or v0.97 since that's the newest and most stable release with ray tracer.
How to work on attributes is simple: create a new material, click 'attributes' and add some of these (http://anim8or.com/download/preview/art_raytracer.html) attributes.

That looks great. Your texture use is very fine and the knife looks very realistic.
But.... If u want it to look even more realistic, make another object (hand or meat) either holding the knife or being chopped by it. Either way it looks really cool! Keep up the good work!

Spriter if you have version 97c or d, to add the attributes :
Open your material for the blade, click on Attributes
Click on New and type : specular
Click OK and then click on String and type : glossy
Keep your color and set
ambient : 0.700
diffuse : 0.550
specular : 0.600
rough : 10000
leave the rest unchanged.
Then select ART renderer to render your image. You may have to change the above settings to get the best result for you, they are just a guideline.
Then show us the result ;)

I think the blade looks good as is. It looks like a ceramic blade from Kyocera. Even the handle is the right shape, although it should be black, instead of woodgrain

Hey thanks for all the comments. personally i dodn't think the balde was all that great but im glad you people like it. here are some renders i recently did. They are dieletric(1st) and glossy blade(2nd and 3rd) i didn't really like the glossy effect so im not going to keep it but here are the screens
