this model took about six hours to model and five minutes to render:
please ctitique. other than the mild texture stretch on the wings.
-
that looks good. you cant really say anything bad about it. butthe only thing i would change is the second dragon. its good u textured it differently, but u can easily tell its just a copied model. even then its not necesarry. but good job dude
-
That looks like a good start. The textures could stand to be a bit less stretched all over the dragon, not just the wings. Perhaps a bit higher quality as well. You could then do things such as define scales on him.
The chain is nice, perhaps you could give the chain reflections as well to add realism to the scene.
lastly, the mouth looks a bit static and stiff. Perhaps it could use some altering, as well as a light inside it to be realistic with the flame coming out.
Its a decent start though! I look forward to your work.
-
thanks guys.
i added a reflection to the chains. and i am going to change the chains for the second dragon so they trial differently.
i had lights in front of the dragons but not in the mouths. i''l add that in.
i'm currently working on a better bump map.
will post soon
-
I had difficulty finding something wrong with this, but the tail looks a bit thin, I think it might need a bit of fleshing out.
-
heres what i fixed.
reflections on the chains.
different chains on the second dragon.
new bump map.
the images are. edge loop, wie, and final.
i will have a better res texture next upload.
-
Hello it's a great image.
Here's my c . I'd like to see some kind of suggestion of speed. Maybe the flames could be bent slightly. The teeth might look better hooked like a carnivor'es and maybe there could be a lot more of them.
Also some legs? With talons.?
The chain perhaps should reflect some of the body and fire, and have a yellow orange cast rather than a cold white cast.
I lkike the compostion and how you have broken the edges of the frame to make it mor dynamic.
-
looking really nice - I like the chain flow
-
headwax: thank you very much for the sugestiobns. the dragon/drake was origannaly not supposed t0 have any legs but if i get around to adding any it will just be hind legs since it is not actually supposed to be a dragon but rather a drake. contrary to the title of this topic.
i added spikes to the back of the second dragon. and hair ver its eues and chin.
i also added a third dragon in the background.
i want to add a "speed" flame but i'm not sure exactly what you mean. "after effects motion blur.?"
i added ray traced reflection to the chains in addition to the enviroment map for the background image.
included is the new dragon image and a rough "dragon roost"
-
Nice roost, but to me the spikes on the 2nd dragon look a bit out of place, and too well organised
Mabye it's the colour that makes them stand out too much, and there could be a few spikes missing as war wounds.
Just giving my opinion
What sort of materials have you got in the roost, and how long did it take to make?
-
i'm not sure how long, but it was under three hours.
probably 1 1/2 and another one for tweaking and such.
the dragon pic includes a much higher res texture and new scale bumbmap.
i aslo deleated some of the spikes on the second dragon. i noticed that half of them are not textured with the spike texture. will do next.
the materials ofr the roost.
-floor-
-amb-.4
-diff-.8
-spec-.2 (with attributes raytraced reflections.)
the wires are a simple grey with high roughness. the "bump effect" was made by converting them to subdivisions and setting the smooth angle to 1.
the tops of the pillars are simple material with raytraced specular of .2 and a slight bumpmap.
most of the rocks were made with the rock script except for the big ones. right by the camera.
-
Nice, looking a lot better, just a small thing to note now, the eye is confused slightly by the end of the first dragon's chain ending at the 3rd dragon's tail.
Glad you're taking all these comments well! lots of progress.
-
thyanks for all the comments guys. i like the way the model(s) are going.
i started modeling the hind legs of the red dragon. not sure if i will put in front legs. maybe hooks on the wings.
i did move the small dragon away from the chain. if you have a recomendation where i am open.
by the way the red dragon has 21518 faces and most of it is subdivisions which eliminates many of the faces
edit- i finished the legs and hands. rigged and txtured them. and posted the pic
-
nicly done.
i like the head.
-
nice! I like it a lot. I like the ripped chain.
-
thank youm all for the comments and helpful ideas. here is the red dragon standing in the sand.
if anyone wants a wallpaper sized render i can do.
-
I notice that there isnt any bone structure in the wings.
-
Nice worl lizeal. Some fog would help break up that horizon line niceley.
-
birdoflash: the dragon has bones in the wings. i may add to the hands but right now there arent as the pic shows.
headwax: the fog doesn't seem to work in ART for me
-
well if that's the case try a transmap on plane will help
see exampls. last txt file is an an8 file, just change the txt to an8
-
i gotta say lizeal93 with each new picture you post those dragons look better and better. i just have one suggestion, try adding a specular map to the dragons skin that might make it look more realistic and don't just use the original skin teture as a spec map convert it to grey-scale and adjust the brightness/contrast in a image editor like photoshop or GIMP then save it as a new image.
-
Sorry, I did not mean animation bones. I meant that you cannot see any type of bone structure within the wings. See the attached pictures for examples of what I mean- the first is a drawing of a dragon I found quickly with a search, and the second is that of a bat, a real-world demonstration of how bones are slightly visible when a thin layer of skin is stretched over them.
-
i tried to add the "bones" to the wings. first i modeld them and then when rigged they did a wired warp. so i instead tried them as a bump map, which would have worked if i did a UV map with lithunwrapper. suffice to say i didn't get around to it, instead i fixed the texure strtch on the wings.
i posted the originall dragon when i started and the new one with an added spec
texture. also i put the dragon in its roost. i need to add a floor to the grey in the bottom left corner of the dragon roost image.
thanks guys for all the critique, without it i probably woulnd't be motivated to fix many of the isues i nthe model or i might not even had known somthign was wrong. thanks agai nand please keep the comments coming. :)

I think it looks fantastic! Great work! I think one more thing that could be done, is to make the fire it is breathing bigger, and maybe have flames coming out of the stream of fire, to enhance the light it is making on the red dragons wings
-
nice work. I like the final image the best... keep it up!
