Some time in the future (near hopefully) could we have .avi materials (i.e a video on a object)?
-
In moment we can maker "animated background" using Terranim8or version 6.6.1
see example in:
&feature=related
a sequence of "jpegs" texture simulate the video..

Hehe that's an old render. Yes, terranim8or can make some nice video backgrounds but it is still not perfect. Animated textures is one of the most requested features for anim8or. We will probably have to wait a while till it becomes possible. Till then, use terranim8or: you can have pretty good results with it.

I wish people would stop recommending terranim8or.
I mean, it can do great stuff, but the way it does animated video just takes up too much power to be REMOTELY useful.
-
xalener: You're right, it does have a roundabout way of doing it. The issue is that currently this is the only way to do it. Until a better way comes along, people will continue to refer to terranim8or, as it makes things easier for the artist with a good result, though yes, it does use a roundabut way that uses up power.
Still, that doesn't retract from its usefulness.

I can't use it. Everytime I try to load a file with an animated background, It freezes.

I believe Steven mentioned something about him working on avi or animated materials for the upcoming version. Keep your fingers crossed :)

that would be awesome

Actually, if I remember correctly, several months back, in the older forum, Steve mentioned something like the following.
In order to decode an AVI file, he would have to either buy a license to a package, or build one from scratch. The building of which, I am sure is no small project.
I am not sure if there are any free or open source libraries out now that he could adapt, but, in my experience, even adapting packages to your project is a huge undertaking.
And, I agree, terranim8or does use a method that takes up power, however, it's the only method it can take.
Recommendation:
render your avi then use jashaka or wax to edit. Both have some pretty easy ways to import 3d objects and use avi as their materials.
