Title: Extrude along path -- how to increase density of segments?
Post by: Gregory on November 14, 2008, 12:31:57 am
I've made a cross-section of a railroad track, and extruded it along a curved path to create a railroad line.  How do make it so the extrusion is denser so the curves are smoother?

Why not try subdividing it by 1.

Because that will in addition to increasing the number of segments perpendicular to the the path, my goal, increase the number along the path, creating a lot of unnecessary polys.

Then, do one thing while drawing the path to extrude, include more segments in the path itself i.e.  the path itself should contain more segments.

That is a useful suggestin for the future.  This path is already drawn and I cannot duplicate it.  Even with fewer points the path segements are the same space apart.

How can I have anim8or make more cuts per segment?

That will again increase the poly count.  Try smoothing the angle.

Look at the attachment I posted.  Where the black lines I drew intersect the track, I want anim8or to put extra cuts.  That's it.

Exactly man, for that you need to draw the path again and whenever there is a bend in the path include more vertices close enough to get the required smoothness and extrasegments.

Of course to the best of my knowledge, this should work.

As I said before I cannot redraw the path.

Go into point mode select the knife tool and cut where you want intersections.

That doesn't work on the path, only the model.

Select the "Path Edit" tool to edit any part of your path. If you doubleclick a segment between points, you can edit the number of "subsegments", if you doubleclick a point, you can edit its properties...

It's all in the manual btw: http://www.anim8or.com/manual/3_object_editor.html#splines (http://www.anim8or.com/manual/3_object_editor.html#splines)
