Title: align to axis?
Post by: Kevinaz on November 08, 2008, 09:31:36 pm
hi everybody,

its been a LONG time since i posted anything. its good to be back.

ok, so i'm wondering, if its at all possible, to align points to an axis? like selecting a group of points, and align all to x or y axis. eg, i have a model that is supposed to be perfectly straight on one side but over time/sloppy modeling, they are kinda messed up. i really dont want to manually arrange every single point, so im wondering if there is a way to do this automatically.

if this feature doesnt already exist, it would be cool to have!

Points ..... don't think so, but with faces you can. select the faces you want to 'flatten' then go to Object Flatten. and chose x y z or normal.

Put pivot on the line you want to align the points, then select all points you want to align, then use non-uniform scale on the axis that fits.

Though I do think that would be both an excellent script, and an excellent feature for the future.

Sorry for posting that message above so short and sharp, but I happen to post from my mobile phone, sometimes, and I'm afraid of wearing out my thumb ;).

No, jokes apart, I see that Kevinaz did not reply still, but I guess we have already pointed out enough solutions for that missing feature.

I have a further one, since the code was there, ready to be slightly modified and used, I released some scripts that allow easy and fast alignment of points as well as of meshes ("easy" and "fast" are matter of personal measure ok :P ;) )

I hope you can take advantage of the align tools I added to the magnet tools (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=1599.0).

( Thank you VBSmiles!
