I see i might have inspired someone, or is this just a coincidence?
Well back to the model: it;s seems really hard to define what is what in your robot. My tip: start of slow. Don't try to make a wicked model right away but start at the basics. A robot is easy to make, since it doesn't has to follow the rules of anatomics which apply on human characters.
Let you fantasy do the work. Some simple boxes and spheres could make a cool robot.

My favourite part of robots are the joints, they can be so complicated... and look very cool, even simple sphere ball joints can look good if done well...
Can't wait to see how this progresses.

thanks for the tips guys.
floyd86: id been meaning to make a robot for quite a while now, and seeing yours, it gave me a few ideas.

UPDATE: started making a body. needs A LOT of improvement, chest area is too bulky, even for a robot...i think, but i will see how it goes :)

You know what? I like it being bumpy, with that plastic bend on the head, just beneath the "copper cap" (to call it so). It gives me the idea of an old, rusty robot that fell on its head. Give it a good texturing and you'll end up with a very nice and uncommon robot, keep on.
